companion plants to a japanese maple?
I am planting a japanese maple in a garden bed about 20'x9'. It will get morning sun, but be shaded from the Atlanta sun in the afternoon. There is nothing else planted there and I need some suggestions. It is directly in front of the house and the maple is the tallest plant I want. It will be the main focus point of my tiny urban garden. Thanks for any help.

- Impatients, marguarite daisies, calla lillies, rock roses, almost any plant that grows low and likes eastern exposure. Or you could go with a groundcover, ie, creeping vinca, or creeping charlie.
- I would suggest a low growing juniper- different texture and color to bring out the color and softer textures of the maple.
- Search Japanese gardens by image, they seem to be beautifully balanced with colour, texture and size. Juniper is great, also maybe look at dwarf conifers.
