Flowers to plant in a flower garden..?

I need to plant some flowers outside, mostly to impress dad for fathers day because hes wanted some for a while. So what are some cute flowers that could be found at the local flowershop? Also, they need to be able to stand the texas sun lol. Thanks!!!
