Can I use plastic baby food containers to start seeds for my vegetable garden?
I have a ton of those Gerber 2nd foods plastic containers. They are about 1 3/4" deep. Are they deep enough to use to start seeds, and would I have to put some holes in the bottom for drainage?

- You can make holes in the bottom with a nail and they should be fine for your seedlings. I use a product called "NO-DAMP" to keep mine from rotting off at the surface of the soil.
- you'd have to put holes in the plastic for drainage, but a better choice would be an egg carton to start seeds, no need for drainage holes
- I have found that the soil in egg cartoons dries out too quickly. I like using the styrofoam 8 oz cups. I usually gather up the used ones at some function. They hold the moisture well and you can easily tear the cup away when you transplant. They also will not rot like paper ones will and the price is right. .
- I did just that. I put holes in the bottom. I got my monies worth out of these. After I finish with them this year I will put on the top rack of the dishwasher and use again next year.
