Does anyone know where I can find some free vegetable seeds?

Due to the economy I am trying to come up with as many ways as possible to get by. At the same time I want to teach my children how to garden and give them an activity I hope they will enjoy. I am looking to start a victory garden but with my budget even the cost of seeds is going to be difficult. I am looking for onions, carrots, radish, tomato, celery, cucumber both for pickling and for salads, potatoes, and sweet bell peppers. If I can find some seeds I plan to not only have fresh veggies but to attempt to do some canning. Any recommendation would be appreciated.

See if there's a master gardeners organization where you are - ours is run by the State as an outreach through the university system. Gardeners are prolific sharers when you get to know them, and the master gardeners program is a great way to meet like-minded friends, too. What you're trying to do can only be done by sharing and helping other gardeners. I bet just about any local gardener would share seeds and plants, both, for anyone willing to help weed for awhile, just as an example.

Separate the seeds and pits from fruit and vegetables before eating them.
