When should I plant the seeds for my garden?

I live in PA so it's cold then hot. I would also like to know: Which of my veg. seeds can stand to be next to each other? I'm going to plant:summer squash, hybrid of tomatoes, lettuce, regular tomatoes, spinach, crimson sweet watermelons, sunflower, cauliflower, broccoli, and a pepper mix. I bought little pots so they could grow inside for a bit. I just want to make sure that they're strong enough come spring... Thanks! :-)

  1. The Cauliflower, broccoli, spinach and lettuce are all cool season crops. Direct-seed the lettuce and spinach as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring. Start the cauliflower and broccoli inside in the next few weeks, and harded off and transplant out in late march to early april. broccoli and cauliflower also do splendidly as a fall crop - start seed inside in early July - plant out mid August. They will mature as the temperatures drop, and they laugh at frost. The squashes, sunflowers and watermelons need WARM soil. Put them in too early, and they rot. Direct seed in the ground after the last frost date - probably mid to late May for your area. Peppers and tomatos, start inside 4-6 weeks before last frost, and plant out after frost danger is past.
  2. If your starting from seeds, put them in a pot you want to plant the seeds in the pot in early or late march so they are large enough to plant outside when it is warm enough.
  3. Hi! With hydroponic technique you can control light, temperature, irrigation, nutrients and important values as pH and EC. If you have problems with your location you should think at Hydroponics. To make an idea you can see some tips and products about Hydroponics. Good luck!
