- I'm not sure how much of a winter garden you can have. For sure no summer plants. Look at this site: http://easttexasgardening.tamu.edu/homegardens/fallveggarden.html grabted ut us east texas but I believe the info would apply to you. Looking at this I'd say, no gardening for awhile, potential too great for cold damage. Instead spend the time preparing a good soil by digging deeply, incorporating compost and even having a soil test done (Cooperative Extension Service) to determine what nutrients you may need to add to the soil before planting. Then spend these next 2 months studying a bit more about growing veggies there along the coast. These is oodles of info here: http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/
- I do not live in Houston but looking at your average highs and lows here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Houston it appears you are in a subtropical environment. I would think you could grow most cool season crops all winter. You may have to provide some form of protection such as a row cover if a bad cold front came through but give it a try. Seed are cheap and you can probably still buy sets at your local co-op's etc. My brother lives in Magnolia a bit north of Houston and I know he planted onion buttons there recently. Give it a whirl, you'll have fun.
