  1. http://www.thebutterflysite.com/gardening.shtml This site is an excellent resource. Please keep in mind that attracting butterflies involves giving them food. Do not be surprised or angry if larval butterflies (aka "caterpillars") end up consuming entire plants. The idea is to provide them with food, shelter, and nectar in their adult stage.
  2. While most flowers like zinnias, echinacea, salvia, will attract butterflies, it's important to figure out what butterflies to expect, and plant (don't pull) the plants they use as host plants. I plant 6 or 7 different kinds of milkweed in my garden for the monarchs, and the butterflies / humming birds enjoy the blooms until the monarchs finally show up and lay their eggs. Some butterflies use common weeds, like the gulf frittilary / maypop connection, the coffee weed / cloudless sulfur... The queen anne's lace / black swallowtail, and pipevine / pipevine swallowtail. A list of butterfly host plants can be an invaluable tool in planning your butterfly garden. have a look see at this list: http://www.dallasbutterflies.com/Butterfly%20Gardening/Host%20Plants%20by%20Butterfly%20Species.htm google is our friend: http://stonethegardener.com/search.html?cx=partner-pub-8351053536046070:ekcrwt7o6ux&cof=FORID:9&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=butterfly+host+plants&sa=Search
