Organic veggies: no chances for survival?

I planted peppers, eggplants and a nice array of other veggies and spent over 200$ worth of organic seeds and equipment. Over the course of two days, all the plants have holes in them and I think I saw flea beetles jumping on them. So I made a mixture of garlic, oil, cayenne pepper and a tsp of soap detergent and it seemed to work, but today the bugs are back and my plants are more dead than alive! My neighbors say to use ''Sevin'' but what is the purpose of organic gardening if I must resort to chemicals! I am to my wit's end and might end up buying it since if they die I will end up buying veggies that are of course sprayed with chemicals in the first place.. oh I am so mad! I think organic gardening is almost impossible today with all these hungry pests around.. years ago I was able to grow stuff with no chemicals, I guess those days are over! Any other ideas or must i go the chemical route? Also, products as Sevin do they need to be re-sprayed after it rains? it rains almost every day here! I read the label of Sevin and was shocked on how you must change your clothes, wear protective eye wear and a hat to protect yourself! Its ridiculous and wonder how people sane of mind would use that!

  1. I have been an organic gardener for over 50 years. Yes, I lose some veggies, but I use BT to good advantage. It used to be easier before folks began killing all the beneficial critters, but it still can be done.
  2. I'm no organic gardener but I wouldn't spray Sevin on anything I ate. There is a good product called Neem oil. It is made from the nuts of the Neem tree and it works on all kinds of bugs and is safe for veggies. Read about it in the link below. There are environmentally safe products out there that are not toxic to the environment or people to help you garden responsibly. You just have to look for them http://www.discoverneem.com/neem-oil-insecticide.html
  3. All pests require three things in order to survive: food, water & shelter. If you remove one of these, they will go elsewhere to look for it. Organize your garden so that you eliminate or highly limit these factors and your pest problems will decrease or become non-existent.
