i need a guide to watering my garden plants?
Not a gardener by any stretch of the imagination but have planted quite a bit in the year that I have lived here, mix of roses, country cottage, hydrangeas, buddlea, mallows, pear trees, daisy, poppies, etc. I am not 100% sure how much water I should be giving to the range of plants and am always nervous if I am giving too much or not giving enough! Is there a simple guide to successfully watering plants - help!

- Get a good soil moisture meter. It should come with a listing of plants and what the meter should read before you water. If you mulch around your plants, you can usually feel the soil underneath it and when it feels very dry, water. Don't keep the soil wet around grown plants as you want their roots going down into the soil for water so they develop a strong root system, not have all their roots close to the surface.
