First, is a surround sound system capable of connecting with a TV or my Xbox? I'm looking for a surround sound system for a cheap price. I have a flat screen 42 inch TV. I don't know if a home theater system is the same as a surround sound system. When I search for home theater systems it says nothing about surround sound in the description. When I search for surround sound, it doesn't say home theater. Most Home Theater in a box systems have NO Auxiliary inputs,. They are cheap surround systems, you can connect their OUTPUT to a TV, but may not have any auxilliary audio inputs. So, make sure whatever you buy will have at least one s/pdif or HDMI auxilliary input that allows you to connect 1 or 2 other inputs..
A home theater is a generic term for every thing in one it should have a tuner and you should be able to hook it up to your 42in flat screen TV and hook up your video source weather it be cable, satellite, DVD, VCR (if you still have one) and you should be able to hook up your gaming system the better ones have a 5.1 or a 7.1 surround sound capability what you should be looking for is a home theater in a box it will come with the speakers and the head unit make your connections and go.And by the way the Electrohome system is not going to give you what you want for $120.00 let the buyer beware you get what you pay for if you want something that sounds good you will at minimum need to spend about $450 to $650 to sound good and last a while.
