What are the best plants for attracting butterflies?

I want to make a butterfly garden and was wondering what I should plant. I am in zone 5/6 and would like to grow flowers, vines, shrubs, etc. that would attract the lovelies. The area I am looking to grow in is partial shade (some areas almost all shade under a tree). It would be awesome if there was a flowering vine I could grow up the tree. Any ideas would be great! Thanks!

  1. There are two things you need for a butterfly garden. A food source and host plants. The food source is what the butterflies like to eat and the host plants are what they like to lay their eggs on. There is too much information to give you in a forum. So it is best to giveyou these sites to look at. Good luck to you and I know you will love your butterfly garden. http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/horticulture/components/dg6711e.html http://www.thebutterflysite.com/gardening.shtml http://www.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef006.asp
