My dog knocked over my corn stock. How do I prevent this to happen again?
I'm so angry at my dog he's a husky/shepherd mix and loves to get into things when no one is around. I have a vegetable garden along with my baby corn stalks. One of my corn stalks is about 5 feet high its my first corn stalk I grew I was very excited about it I grew it from a seed inside and trans planted it to the back yard in the garden. My dog lives outside because he's too big so we chained him up last night and my boyfriends dad unchained him this morning so I woke up and I took a look outside and all I saw was my beautiful corn stalk (my baby) knocked over touching a the ground. I knew it was my dog who knocked it over because theirs a huge rock next to the stalk with claw marks on it. I am so upset right now my baby (corn stalk) was pronouced dead this morning I felt like crying but I just decided to plant another seed it would probably grow of what summer is left and might grow corn before the summer ends. I was so angry I picked up the stock and hit my dog with it I am still upset. What can I do to prevent my stupid dog from destroying another corn stalk?

- You dog isn't the stupid one. Dogs are not outside animals. Get rid of his stupid owner before you do anything about the "stupid" dog.
- Either bring the dog inside where he belongs or put a fence around your vegetable garden. Or better yet do both.
- The dog isn't a problem his owners are. He is also not stupid. There is no such thing as too big. he's untrained and not getting enough exercise. Either fence off your garden and start exercising and training your dog or find a home for him where people have time for him. ETA: I don't care HOW upset you were there was no excuse for hitting your dog. Would you have done that to a child? No i don't f'n think so. you really need to grow up.
- Stupid is as stupid does! Chaining a dog is what is stupid...lack of training is what is stupid....crying over a corn stalk is stupid....hitting your dog for stomping in a corn stalk is beyond stupid.....the list could go on and on but that would be "stupid" too! GROW UP and get a stuffed animal...they don't need a smart owner!
- Wow, sorry about your cornstalk. You are right; you can always grow another. Your husky/shepherd really meant it no harm. Like you say, he is just a big dog with lots of energy. Hitting him with the stalk----did that make you feel better? Probably not! Sounds like you need to fence in your new "baby" so the dog doesn't get to it AND so the dog doesn't get hit with the new it. P.S. I do not promote hitting, but it sounds like the boyfriend's dad should have received the swat!
- Put a fence around your garden if it means that much to you. A dog cant tell the difference between a corn stalk and a blade of grass. (Ive been a gardener for decades, and have never considered on of my plants my "babies", or hit one of my dogs because they destroyed one.) The dog sounds bored and frustrated. Have your boyfriend start walking and training him.
- I'd start off by fencing your garden off, not only will it keep out your dog but rabbits and etc. Second, that dog needs training. Exercise at least twice a day, and make sure he realizes you don't want him around the garden. Do Not Hit Him, Or He May Hit Back.
- Will you be taking classes in botany at your local college? I think the plants need someone who can feel such fierce devotion to a farm product. Why don't you put a fence around the garden? That is what most people do when they don't want traffic through an area.
