- Japanese maples, bamboo, forest grass, painted ferns, conifers...just to get you started. Also, a water feature, and something in stone...like a small pergola that holds a candle, or statue of some sort, or even a large natural boulder.
- the flowers that are revered in Japanese paintings are peony, chrysanthemum, cherry blossom, iris, bamboo, lanterns, lotus, water lily, azalea, hydrangea...... the trick is to use fewer, rather than more..... http://www.google.com/images?q=Japanese+gardens&um=1&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-us%3AIE-SearchBox&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=2 a bit like this one... http://www.vancouver-naturescape.com/Landscape-images/gardens/japanese-garden.jpg read here about the use of stone, water and plants.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_garden
