Memory check 1970's mail order catalogue (sporting goods)?
I'm 42 and growing up I have a distant memory of looking through a mail order catalogue in the mid 70's and in the sporting goods section there were 2 or 3 pages of mostly air rifles but also some shotguns. Today i find it incredible that this could be the case. When I asked friends they remember the air arms but not the shotguns. So do any senior's out there have any memory's of 1970's mail order catalogue's ? - I remember this - and knives as well. I think the brand for air rifles was Daisy. Also other lethal weapons like archery stuff. Happier times.
- Remember it well in the 1960's not sure about 1970's.You could also buy air rifles and shotguns from adverts in daily news papers.I bought a semi automatic five shot Luiggi Francchi 12 bore shotgun through a mail order catalogue.A friend of mine bought a Canadian 12 bore (make:'Cooey') at same time.A lot of Spanish shotguns were also available...probably because English makes were more expensive. As for air guns the American Daisy make were available(these were bb guns)in different models also Diana,Relum,Original(German)and B.S.A....the .22 'Airsporter' being one of the best. Most manufacturers offered either .177 or .22 calibre. The most potent air weapons were the Crossman CO2 gas powered and pump up action produced in Germany. At this time Shotguns were not classified as a firearm and could be kept by buying a 'Ten shilling' licence at the local post office.
