What is the best material/method to sow seeds?

I used Jiffy Peat Pellets and my seeds sprouted beautifully. The day before I wanted to plant them in the garden I read that sometimes they contain chemicals to boost performance. Not good for an organic garden, obviously. How else can I sow seeds without planting them in the ground first?

  1. That's baloney! I use extra-depth Jiffy peat pellets to grow my tomatoes and if I thought for one moment that they contained chemicals - of any kind - I wouldn't be using them. And by the way, they are the best and easiest way to grow almost anything from seed.
  2. Peat Pellets are an excellent way to start seeds and none that I know of have injected chemicals. I would say that you are 99% safe in using them in an organic garden, since they are organic.
