I want to start a organic garden this summer. HELP?!?!?!?
I live in Saint Paul Minnesota, I was thinking about doing raised beds because the soil at our house is is clay based. I need help finding everything to start this garden, soil, seeds, etc. I have found a few websites that have organic seeds but most of them you have to buy the seeds in bulk. I need help on what I can grow in this climate. I would love to have strawberries! <3 Anything helps! Thanks!

- I made two raised beds with cinder blocks...22 blocks (44 total) @$1.34 each, made around 32 Sq ft garden, plus the two holes in the blocks can be planted to.If I remember it took 6 maybe 7 bags of planting mixture at 2 cu ft per bag around $4-$5 a bag. You can buy organic certified mixtures, thinking they were around $13 a bag. All material were from home depot and Lowels. Would you have to really have the seeds being organically produced? On what you can grow any of the local nurseries will know what grows in your area.
- http://www.gardening.about.com click vegetables and fruits above and you will see it.
- With clay based soil, you have the right idea with raised beds. The big thing is the drainage and tilth of the soil. You'll want to add lots of organic matter, compost etc to the soil. We have an organic garden and got almost all of our garden supplies from Peaceful Valley http://www.groworganic.com/default.html. You can buy organic seeds in packs, bare root strawberries and just about anything you need for an organic garden. Their blog http://intheloop.groworganic.com/ is also pretty useful in learning about organic gardening and they have a few articles about growing in clay soil.
- I know that Miracle Grow sells organic bagged soil that I've bought at places like Target, Home Depot or Lowes...that should help you get started...
