How do you start a flower garden?

Hi i've never had a garden before because my horses would of just ate them but now my horses can't get in the front yard so I want to star one, what do I have to do? And what are the easiest flowers to grow for a beginner? Thanks

  1. Well finding a spot helps that gets a fair amount of sunlight. You will then have to dig up the ground to loosen the soil (there are machines that do that) then you will have to go through the dirt and pick out all the grass and weeds so there is just soil left. Add some fertilizer to the soil (if you have cow manure (not fresh) or peat those are great or you can go to a store and buy some soil (all this helps make whatever you plant grow better). Set up a border so that new grass and weeds don't invade your garden. Buy some seeds plant and water them once winter is over and the ground is thawed out. That’s about it just go into your garden a few times a week and pick out the weeds (the longer you wait to do this the worse it gets). I would suggest you get some perennials (they grow year after year so you don’t have to plant seeds every year. Marigolds are really easy to deal with they don’t need a lot of attention but you will have to plant them every year since there annuals. You can also go to a green house buy some flowers and plant them in your garden if you don’t want to wait till the seeds grow. Hope this helps.
  2. The best garden will take a little work. First, till the ground with one of those thick-tined pitchforks or a tiller and add compost or other rich dark soil to the ground where you want the garden. You're going to want to remove any big rocks. Its a good idea to put edging in around the bed so that grass won't grow into it (some grass can be really tough to get out). After amending the soil, smooth it out. The compost or other rich soil is really a key component to the garden. There are two kinds of flowers: Perennials and annuals. Annuals last like one season and then turn brown and die. Perennials will come back after dying back. In the summer time if you're in a temperate climate Melapodium, Lantana, and Petunias (annuals) will take the heat. A good way to figure out which flowers will do best in your area is to find out what climate zone you are in first. Then you'll want to just find flowers at the nursery that match that zone. Some flowers will do better in full sun and some will do better in partial shade. You will find out which flowers do best by simply looking at the tags in the nursery. Irises and daffodils are easy to start and come back every year (perennials).
