Why am I so obsessed with gardening, plants, flowers, animals and birds?
I noticed that I have been obsessed with gardenting since it's my first time starting a veggtable garden. Me and my boyfriend went to Lowe's yesterday and I spent 30 min in the garden area I wanted to buy everything I just ended up buying hummingbir food and a blueberry bush. I Went home and I started to pull a bunch of weeds and clean and water my garden, then I layed bird and squirrel food along my fence and I cleaned my hummingbird feeders and filled them up with hummingbird necter that I had made. I told my boyriend I should have bought a couple of more plants and seed that I saw there at the store but when I go back I will buy them. I want to buy and plant everything I love all plants and growing them from a seed. I love giving the seeds life because plants give oxygen to the world. Is there something wrong with me? oh and if you have garden design ideas please feel free to share. Thank you.

- Yeah, there's something wrong with you...you've been bitten by the same bug that alot of folks get bitten by; it's called love of the land! You're green. be happy! It's much better than some obsessions, so go pull some weeds and stop worrying about your green thumb, it's all good. We need more people like you in this crazy world! - Nothing wrong with you. Your name says it--nature, and growing things, is a kind of magic. I am garden-obsessed. It started with irises and daylilies that my great-grandmother had on her farm; I now have these 80-year-old plants all over my property. Every time I move, I leave some irises and dayliles for the next homeowner and take some with me. I bought myself a rototiller for an early birthday present and am turning my 1-acre property into a landscaped wonderland. I grew up on a 400-acre farm, so 1 acre isn't much to me. I have a Butterfly Garden in my front yard along with three hummingbird feeders and a birdbath. I have a fishpond (built it myself) in my backyard, along with two suet feeders (for woodpeckers), two bird feeders, a bat house, and a squirrel feeder. I have a 20 x 20 foot garden and I share my produce with several turtles that live under my deck; they especially like my cucumbers. (Hey, they lived there before I moved in. It's only fair!) Most of my plants were given to me by friends and relatives. When someone gives you a plant, you bring that person's goodwill and generosity onto your property. When you give away plants, you are blessing your own garden and it will thrive. Every spring I give away hundreds of plants to friends, relatives, and strangers. I have had given to me spearmint, chocolate mint, hollyhocks, phlox, lily of the valley, four o'clocks, shamrocks, monkey grass, hostas, ferns, hyacinth bean vines, zinnias, cleomes, cannas, irises, sedum, chrysanthemums, vinca, honeysuckle, morning glories, impatiens, datura, Shasta daisies, wild violets, daylilies, moss roses, and sweet william. And this is just over the past 5 years. You may want to start by making a small butterfly garden. Tall Garden Phlox (the white plants in this picture http://www.wwgreenhouses.com/images/Phldav.jpg) are favorites for butterflies and hummingbirds, and they spread freely and smell very sweet. Gardens don't have to be designed; it sounds like you already have some enthusiasm and flair, and are willing to experiment with different plants to see what works. Don't lose your enthusiasm, and soon your property will make people stop and say, "That's beautiful!" You can e-mail me if you'd like links to images of my own garden and landscaping (Facebook, Flickr, Webshots).
- You have found something that you totally enjoy doing. There is not a single thing wrong with that! And you're helping the environment, the wild life and having a good time all at the same time! I'm almost as bad; I just came in from the garden. Tying up tomato plants, feeding them, gave them a good drink, pulled some weeds, checked the string beans, talked to the lima beans..... But on the upside, I had a song sparrow singing to me, saw a hummingbird, laughed at the tufted titmouse babies and talked to one of the resident wild bunnies.
- Because it's a perfectly normal, relaxing , productive and "earthy" hobby that thousands of people enjoy doing on a daily basis.I was bitten by the gardening bug when i was 6 years old and made a career out of it with landscape design !
