I found a tagged pigeon!?

Ok, so I have a tagged pigeon on my back patio. It just sits there. It isn't annoying or anything, actually I think it rather cute. But it has a yellow tag of its right foot and I think it might belong to someone. It isn't really scared of people, but as soon as you get within 2 feet of it the thing will walk away. I haven't ever seen it fly. At the moment it is living in my vegetable garden. I have thrown it flax seeds a few times, they aren't cooked or anything. He also drinks the water that I spray on my plants. Does anyone know what a yellow tag means? It can fly... I tried to catch it...

  1. He could just be tagged for migration patterns. I see lots of wild birds with tags so scientists can identify them.
  2. Perhaps it is a lost bird. If you are able to catch it, try reading it's tag and go on this website: http://www.ifpigeon.com/ Example How to Read A Pigeon Band If the band number reads, IF-1234-SCHOLAR-06 The (IF) means it originated from the International Federation Org. The (1234) is a unique serial number for identifying that bird. The (SCHOLAR) is the Club identification Code within the Org. The (09) is simply the year the pigeon was born.
