how do you keep your garden safe from pests (like your neighbor's dogs)?

I would like to plant a garden in our backyard, as I will have some seedlings ready for planting soon, but I am afraid that our neighbor's dogs or other animals (birds/squirrels/cats/raccoons/etc) may kill them. what can I use/do that would protect my plants, but not be harmful/dangerous to animals?

2. could put like a 3 or 4 feet fence thats white.. that would be cute.. then you could have a door also! :)

7. You get a fence.. and if the animals come in YOUR yard, you have the right to shoot them..
8. put fenceing around it so the animals dont get to it and dont leave anything they mite want aroun it to.
