Which floor would we best compliment a white country kitchen? White wainscotting with blue grey walls in the living room and baby blue fabric sofas? http://www.homedepot.ca/catalog/hardwood-flooring-trillium/172603+4294964567

  1. your going with wood obviously because you want the country feel right?? I always suggest tiles. Ceramic Tile. Wood honestly in a lifetime has too much upkeep. Do you have kids, do you have pets? Is there going to be a lot of wear and tear on your kitchen floor. You have to think about these things. Hardwood in a kitchen typically isn't a good idea anyway due to grease, spills etc.... Think about it and make sure you make an educated decision. Hope it helps.
  2. While there is some truth in what Chelsy says about tile, I have wood in my kitchen as it aesthetically gives flow when transitioning area to area in my house. You shouldn't necessarily trust online pics for your final decision --- bring a sample home to be sure. The first sample isn't too bad...slightly orange which may look good with its compliment blue OR I would do the dark exotic walnut to give tonal range to your kitchen since you have a light tone (white cupboards/wainscotting), mid-tone (grey walls, baby blue fabric) but no dark ones.
  3. Wood flooring is about the only way to go in a country room. And, yes, it requires upkeep and maintenance, but the wear and tear even adds character to the overall country design. Wider planks win out over slimmer versions and choose from traditional grains - oak and pine are very country choices. You certainly don't want something like cork or bamboo in there. Wood flooring is pretty expensive but with a country design you can get pretty creative. Flaws in the grain or nicks in the surface may get you a discount at the retailer and fit in better with your design too! Check around your area for reclaimed wood - if you could track the owner of an abandoned house down he might even give you the old flooring. Similarly, I've known of closed mills and factories to sell what they can before demolition. Painting is another great treatment for country wood floors. Authentic farmhouses had either painted or bare wood floors, not the varying shades of typical stained-and-sealed-brown you see everywhere today. You could save a little cash by ordering second quality planks and painting the entire floor a shade that compliments your decor.
  4. Some wider plank wood floors. Pine or Hickory would both go well.
