when is a good time to plant seed to start seedling this year?

would like to start a garden this year with some flowers but not sure when is the best time to sow the seeds. I have the little seed starting trays and grow lamps. Any suggestions?

1. After all chance of frost has past. I take it that your seeds did not come in packages?
2. It depends on what zone you are in. Go to this site and check your zone.
3. It depends on which plants and vegetables. If you start indoors it should be at a time that will have them ready for putting out at the proper time. The seed packs can help with that. Cool weather plants can go out before the last frost date, while warm weather plants will be at grave risk if planted too early. Some seeds (cucumbers, squash) germinate almost overnight on a heating mat; others like hot peppers can take a month or two. There is no one answer here. The various seed companies (Park, Burpee, Harris) all have instructions. After all, they want the seeds you buy from them to work out well.
