When do you plant Lavender seeds?
I am starting a garden, and I'm planing to start growing Lavender from seed. What time of year do you plant it? Is seed planting the best choice for Lavender? If you buy it full-grown, how do you transplant it to your garden?

- I like to start perennial seeds in February or March so I can start hardening them off outside in May. Some lavendars are easier to start than others. I have "Lavendar Lady" (short plants) that actually reseed on their own. If you look around your garden centers, you can usually find lavendar in 4-inch or gallon sized pots. Again, spring is a good time for planting lavendar as the plant can settle in before hot weather arrives. As with any perennial, seed starting will be cheaper; but plants will give you an instant effect.
- Most lavender is grown from cuttings, and not from seeds. This article discusses this in much more detail: http://www.mountainvalleygrowers.com/lavendercareandtips.htm
- I planted some about a month ago.the seed package said they can take one to four months to germinate
- Actually there is no specified time of year to start germinate Lavender seeds. I germinated seeds under white light and you can start see the seedlings after 10 days. I grow them in pots. You can see further explanation here. http://herbs-seed.blogspot.com/search/label/Lavender Try to avoid contamination and overwatering during transplant. It may lead to disease to the grown ones.
