Homework Help? (equations)?

I need help with a few word problems. I'm having trouble understanding what kind of equation to use on word problems (multiplying, dividing, adding, etc.) 1. A chef cooks 1 1/2 potatoes for each serving of mashed potatoes. How many servings can he make from 18 potatoes? 2. The perimeter of an equilateral triangle is 25.5 cm. How long is each side? 3. Suppose you have $15 to plant a garden. If you spend $6 on seeds, how many packs of vegetable plants could you buy for $0.75 each?

Public Comments

  1. 1. 18 divided by 1.5 2. 25.5 divided by 3 (number of sides) 3. $15 minus $6 then what's left divided by 0.75
  2. It probably sounds silly but seriously if you draw little pictures it really helps, like for the first one draw 18 potatoes then colour in 1 1/2 potatoes at a time and draw a tally every time you colour 1 1/2 potatoes in - count up your tally and you have and answer :) Good Luck ! :D
