best place to find worms for the garden?

i have heavy clay soil in the front garden that had gravel thrown down on top. now i'm looking to dig it up and sow some grass seed down. we've got plenty of good topsoil but i'm wondering where the best place to find worms would be. for free if possible. and without digging up the back garden (lol). thanks!

1. Add tons of organic matter the worms will come
2. I get mine from the compost heap yum yum, maybe you have a friend that has one? So you can raid that.
3. It's a chicken and egg situation as worms love piles of cut grass. If you can persuade a friend or neighbour to leave a flat pile of mown grass cuttings in their garden for you, you will find heaps of worms there after a short time.
4. As a kid, I used them for fish bait. Would go out around barn and find a fresh cow pie, dropping! Dig under it with a shovel.
