How do I work out how many litres of water it takes to fill a garden pond? I have a pond of 12m x 9m.?
I'm putting in a pond. I'm at the scoping out stage of the project. Armour cable, filter, pump etc. What I need to know is what size pump would I need if my pond is 12m x 9m? I'm intending to keep a few fish and garden plants.

- You forgot to say how deep it is as that will have an effect on how much water you need.
- find the voulm with L x W x H, then that will give you some cubic meter, then find how many liter it takes to fill one cubic meter, then multiple that by the numbers of cubic meters you have.
- Get your final dimensions and either visit or call your local aquatics centre.
- 12 X 9 X 1(?) = 108 cubic meters = 108,000 litres for a pond of 1 m deep. Wow that's a big pond. If the pond is 2 m deep that would be 216,000 litres, even bigger pond. Are you sure its not a swimming pool? Good Luck
- i can't answer your question but i can tell you that this question would get much more and much better answers under the mathematics and what not section. it's probably just the crappy yahoo topic selector because of the word (garden) good luck.
- After you figure it out, meter the actual amount when you fill it. Make sure nobody else is using any water, record your water meter's reading. Fill the pond. Figure out how much was used. You'll need it if you ever have to treat the bond - especially when potentially harmful medicines or treatments are used. The smaller the pond, the more exacting you need to be!
