Can i put a goldfish in my garden pond?
Someone has given me a goldfish in a bowl, like the ones you win at fairs. 7 I dont agree with this but it was a gift. I have a large garden pond with plants and filtration system. In the pond is some koi and some shubumkins. The question is Can i put the goldfish in the pond? From what i see on the net this is completely fine. Would like some info from a fish person ....

- it should be ok to put the fish in.
- My goldfish have been thriving for years in an outdoor pond.
- Yes you can. As a Mathematician, I would say it is fair to assume a two inch long Goldfish would be able to be put in any pond larger than two inches in length.
- Yeah it can go into the pond its a cold water fish so would be fine but what is best to do is get a fish bag and put the fish in it with some of the bowl water, the put the fish in the pond in the bag to let aclimatise to the water temp after 4hrs or so put it in the pond and it should be fine.
- No worries. Your goldfish will be much happier in the pond and will get along just fine with the koi and shubs. Just remember to float them like you would if they just came from the store.
- I have Shubunkins goldfish and koi in my pond all different sizes no problems they are all happy
- yes, it is not a problem. I put some "feeder" goldfish in my outdoor pond last year and this year they had babies. This is in the Willamette valley in Oregon. we have about 3 weeks of freezing weather a year and they stay in the pond (no heater). There is a pump because it has a small waterfall. The pond is around 200 gallons.
