Why does the film Fight Club mock & satirize Jack's Ikea catalogue, shopping & collecting forays?
Public Comments
- it's mocking it because the movie is anti-materialism. it shows us that those ikea catalogues, after a while were all that the narrator had. It shows us how wrong and sick that is, and it is only after his apartment is blown up that he realizes it. it shows how pointless things are when all that is really important is us, our abilities, and our relationship. tyler durden said it perfectly when he said, "The things you own end up owning you. It's only after you lose everything that you're free to do anything.
- It symbolizes conformity. The inability to stray from the pack and make your own decisions. The mundane blankness of being like everyone else. Then he is given a new life by having those burdening items ripped from him so that he is free to be himself and not be defined by an item on a page in a catelog.
