  1. Try a flower called the Mallow flower it closely resembles the hibiscus, but the blooms get huge. They come in white with pink and burgandy centers they are lovely and hearty (just water them.) Also, try looking at different hibiscus plants they can be found in tree forms and shrub forms. They come in all colors, just remember in doing a Hawaiian garden you're going to be using tropicals. That means lots of water, lots of sun, and they dislike the cold. If you get freezing temps, you can cover them through light frosts, but I would bring them inside at least a garage for hard long freezes. They will come back if properly winterized. 2. Anything tropical will do. 4 plants are a must for a hawaiian themed garden: Definately plumerias (lei flower/shrub) is super easy to grow. Come in all kinds of shades of white and pink Hibiscus, any type will do Monstera is a fab large leafed tropical vine. I've never seen seeds and they aren't available everywhere. http://www.floridata.com/ref/M/mons_del.cfm Bananas are great too, plus the plant multiplies --Edit--- Butter fly ginger is also great, smells great, multiplies and comes back every year Here is my favorite (drool) blog, there are tons of tropical plant suggestions on it as well as some shopping links. http://medusasgarden.blogspot.com/ good luck!
