What is a good plant for a garden window?
I have a garden window in my kitchen and want to plant some plants in small planting pots with the kids but I am unsure what type of plants would be good in the window. The window faces North so never really any direct sunlight but it does get a good deal of sun as there is no other apartments to the West or North of mine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh,,,another question, should I by the small plants that where already started or buy seed packets. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to all. Do not want to do beans...want a flower. I also meant to include that I live in Las Vegas, NV so it does get hot here. Not sure how much difference it will make but thought I should include that as well.

- Where you're doing it inside I'd suggest seed packets. It's very fun to watch them grow and they won't die easily like they will outside. There are several different kinds of things you can plant depending on if you want it to be permanent or just a little project for fun. I suggest beans. Your children will love them and they're not expensive if you kill a few. :)
- I would suggest sunflowers if you are doing this with your kids, they are easy to grow anywhere. Or you can get a couple of packets of annual seeds like pansies or marigolds or even snapdragons (my 6, 9, and 11 year old kids love snapdragons cause you can make the flowers talk) are also all good to plant. If you are looking for year round color then it will be harder with the seeds. I have two orchids that do extremely well with indirect sun which would work well with your lighting. But you can't start those from seed. Hope this helps!
