10 pts--how often do i water a new garden, freshly planteD?

It is in partial shade....the sun comes out at different times throughout the garden but sunshine starts to hit around 1pm. I watered it two days in a row. The soil looks dry on top but is moist when the soil is turned. I have 2 rhododendrons, 1 bugbane, lilly's, astilbe, jacobs ladder, japanese red grass, 3 hydrangeas....just planted them on sunday/monday of this week. Thanks for your help.

  1. I know that when I plant a garden i try to pretty much soil them in water then wait a couple of hours and if it still looks moist i don't water them anymore because you don't want to flood them out.Depending on where you live,2-3 times a day.
  2. Get some miracle grow, and mix a little in your water can / attach it to the hose, and water it every other day when the sun is going down. At first you will have a lot of bees, but they will be gone when the sun goes down.
  3. Once a day in the morning - before 1 in your case. Water for a long time to help establish a good root system. If you water less (amount) and more frequently the plants won't establish deep root systems to find their own water.
  4. Daily for 2 weeks.
  5. Once plants are established, one inch per week unless temps are really hot then twice a week. Right now, be careful to not get soil soggy under top crust as that may caue root rot. Watering in early morning is best.
  6. water your plants late in the evening. this so the water can drink at night every 3 days
  7. The rule of thumb is that they will need an inch of water a week, whether from you or nature. Get a cheap rain gauge at a local store and plant it in the garden. It is best to water in the early morning so that the roots have a chance to absorb the water before it evaporates. If you water at night, the water tends to sit on the leaves and soil which promotes disease. Good luck.
  8. You should water your garden every 4-5 days.. if you see it get dry you should water again.. Remember that most all plants are 90% water so it is important.. So that should do it :} Best of luck on your garden I am sure it will be beautiful
