  1. I do not know the answer, but the answer my be on this useful website. I just found it online the other night and it helped me. www.plantgardens.webs.com
  2. Burpee seeds are always reliable, and you get a fair amount of seeds in the packet. Although the type of seeds you buy at Wal-Mart are OK, there are actually very few seeds to a packet, so it's not as great a deal as it seems. If you go on line, you can get Henry Jones or Gurney, but they're much more expensive than Burpee or some of the in-store brands, and I don't think they're that much better.
  3. I think burpee is a very good brand. I am looking through the Burpee catalog right now. I used to use old seeds and not really pay attention to the quality of the seeds...I didn't know it would matter. However, it really helps to start out with good seeds and good soil. Have fun
  4. There is no single brand that is best for everything. I buy seeds from several different suppliers, depending on what I need and who has the variety I am looking for. Also, a lot of the seed companies buy their seed in bulk from one of the major growers; you may have seeds from the same grower in several differently labeled packages. Burpee, Gurneys, Jung, etc. may all purchase bulk seeds from the same supplier so you would have the same chances for success or failure from any of them. As was pointed out already, the main difference will be how many seeds you get in the packet, not the quality of the seeds. Of course, there are exceptions. Some seeds may be older or handled and stored in different ways that may affect them, but you wouldn't know that by the display, packaging or catalog descriptions. Just look in the various catalogs and decide which varieties you want to try, find the best price and place your order. Good luck and enjoy!
  5. since you dont have a real long growing season, along with your seeds get some starter plants from a nursery as well. That way you will begin getting veggies earlier while the seedlings are still maturing. you will be a happier gardener.
  6. In New England try Fedco. Or use any brand that is heirloom seeds. You can google heirloom seeds and come up with several companies, including one called heirloom seed.
