Sweet or Hungarian Pepper?
I have read two different books regarding paprika. One book states that there is an actual Paprika pepper and the other book states that sweet paprika comes from the pimento in a different kind of pepper. Which is it? I found seeds once in a Burpee catalog for a Paprika pepper but have not found it anywhere else.

- I'm not sure what plant is the paprika (and funny enough, I made chicken paprikash tonight!!). Here's what Wiki says: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paprika
- comes from paprika pepper. Parks Seeds usually has them. U may also want to try. Totally Peppers ( a seed book just containing peppers.
- Where does paprika come from? Paprika comes from peppers (capiscums) grown on the Hungarian plains near the towns of Szeged, Kalocsa and Ersekujar. http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Article2404.html Paprika can be made of more than one type of pepper for example Spanish Paprika is a mild chili pepper. I think your confusion is when they speak of Hungarian Paprika it is the VERY BEST for cooking. The conditions for growing the peppers in Hungary are perfect for making a good flavored paprika. There is a saying that all good cooks use white pepper when making mashed potatos, and nothing but Hungarian Paprika for flavor. I know I won't! Tip: if you make your own spaghetti sauce and it has a acidic taste and you don't want to add sugar use Hungarian sweet paprika that way you don't have sweet sauce.
