Free Garden Catalogs

Where should I buy great seeds for my vegetable garden, and fruits also, such as table or concord grapes?

I'm very excited to get started on a garden, as I believe the economy is going to drastically change for the worse. I want to become as self-sufficient as possible. Where are some great seeds to get started with?

  1. Where are the seeds you ask. Well, catalogs are super places to look for seeds. You do not tell us where you live. Florida grown gardens will have different plants than Minnesota. Plants to eat grow with different requirements. Some need cool days, 85 of them, some need hot days at 80 degrees for ripening of the fruit. it depends upon your latitude and on your amount of sun during each day. And water is a factor. If you are in desert type area, you will need a reliable water source - a stream which does not dry up or a pond to use. City water is expensive and chlorinated. So, go tot he library and ask for gardening books that deal with your area of the world. Read and do what they say. I am an organic gardener and use as little store bought anything. I make raised beds with scrap lumber, I get old hay and straw for mulch from a farmer who gives it to me and I use heirloom seeds given me by our gardening club. Sweet thing, you have LOTS to learn and it is allllllll fun. Go for it.
  2. I get my seeds from Burpee. No complaints.
  3. I purchase all my seeds from Nature Hills http://www.naturehills.com/catalog/Seeds.aspx I have had great success over the years with their seeds. I just purchased some Top hat blueberries from Nature Hills also and the plants were in excellent condition and are leafing out perfectly. http://www.naturehills.com/catalog/edible_plants.aspx http://www.naturehills.com/catalog/small_fruits.aspx http://www.naturehills.com/catalog/fruit_trees.aspx I agree, people are planting more gardens and are concerned about the economy. Good Luck!
