- Be careful! Fish ponds are delicate balances and any large changes can harm your fish. Pond Ph is variable throughout the day. So before making any decisions, read up on it & also on salt content, water hardness, etc. Once you get a pond that is well-established with plants, aeration & beneficial bacteria, you should not need to do a lot to it for maintenance. You might want to invest in a bottom feeder to help clean fish waste as well. Plecostamus is one type, but there are many others to choose from. - An outdoor water garden should be between Ph6 & Ph7 to keep the Ph neutral. You say you only have 125 galls. in the pond, i hope part of it has some depth in wich the fish can have cooler water, especially in today's present heat. All the best.
