- sun? try to get top soil...if anything its probably the soil that is bad..try planting beans n stuff to put the nitrates back in the ground..then plant your flowers..you can usually plant the beans during the winter, and the rest of the year go with flowers n stuff, super healthy for them and you get free beans.. or try buying fertilizer n stuff from home depot.
- I think you're a big ol' nurturer. You love to take care of everyone around you, but the garden is different. IMO, those plant are probably being over-watered. You will recognize the symptoms of over-watering, the leaves turn yellow and finally the plant completely wilts and my even look moldy. You have to give those plants some space, neglect them a little. Only water if the top 2 inches of soil is dry. Now leave those plants alone and make some cookies for the ones you love.
- Only when they are just seedlings do they need to be kept moist. You probably were over watering. You need to build a high humas in the soil to hold the moisture. Lawn clippings and leaves worked into the soil is good for this. Unless you have a lot of wind, I wouldn't worry so much about drying out the top of the ground.
- Slow down. Water twice a day and how much.Maybe soak every 4 days but not water everyday. If soil is dry at 2 inch depth then water.Guaranteed to have a good garden. Most people point the hose a few seconds and think they water, but they don't. To water it takes several minutes in one spot to water sufficiently. You are driving your plants to suicide. Slow down and enjoy watering. But not so often.
- Water the plants twice a day, ONLY if the the weather is very hot and the upper 5 cm. of soil is dry in the afternoon. If you water the plants twice a day but the weather is cool and the soil is still damp, they will be waterlogged and will drown and die. You can water the plants deeply, but make sure the soil is well drained.
- It could be a few things. Too much water is one thing and it can also lead to fungal growth that will kill plants.
- Desert temps and dryness generally require some afternoon shade for veggies to thrive. Also watering twice every day is too often. You need to water deeply when you water. If the soil drains rapidly (as with pots or raised beds) then daily may be necessary, but otherwise three to four times a week is better. Get a moisture meter and check the soil 2 inches deep before you water. Watering when the soil is already wet causes problems.
- That's too much water. Try watering once every 2 or 3 days. Stick your finger into the soil about and inch and if it is still damp don't water.
