When is it safe for your plants to use pool water (Chlorinated) on the garden?

I have a intex pool in my back yard and as the warm weather is now gone I wish to recycle the water and use it on my garden and lawn. At what chlorine levels is it safe to do so as not to damage my lawn or garden?

  1. summerkissed, I don't believe I would subject my garden plants to any level of chlorinated water. At best, the plants would try to recover from such exposure, in which case no good has come from using such water. good luck
  2. I don't Think. It Has Chemicals In The Water. Fresh Water would Be Best i don't Know What Plants Do When Watered With A Chemical Liquid But I Know Its Not GOOD
  3. In the USA city water has MORE chlorine than normal pool water. Drinking water in fact has 3 to 5 times more that pool water. Normal home pool water has 1.5 to 2 ppm chlorine, drinking water has 20 to 25 ppm chlorine. There may be other chemicals in pool water that some people put in. So chlorine is not a problem, but there may be other chemicals like water qualifiers and de foamers. We use drinking water to water plants all the time - so its ok to use pool water, just don't use for 3 to 4 day after adding chlorine.
  4. I would tend to agree with stretch, what type of chlorine did you use? did you use cyanuric acid as a stabilizer? (typically found in tablets) Chlorine will dissipate from your water with sunlight, but will leave halites, chloramines, trihalomethanes and other dissolved solids which you wouldn't want to put in your garden.Read the 2 source pages and decide for yourself. I have emptied pool water onto lawns with no apparent ill effects, but only if necessary, I would empty the pool water into the sanitary sewer.
  5. I worked with swimming pools for a long time and any one that works with pools knows that the sun can leach the chlorine from a pool in just a day or 2. I suggest you wait just a week and then you can use all you want.. THanks for conserving water we need more people like you
