1. Most plants in which the flowers are small in large clusters will attract butterflies. Asclepias, Buddleja, Achillea, Lobularium, Centranthus, and Lantana are some of my favorites. You may also think about planting for their larvae. Passiflora is a favorite of the Heliconius for instance. Good luck.
2. Zinnias, butterfly bushes, butterfly weed, Yarrow, lantana, verbena. Wild flowers help too.
