can anyone suggest some plants for my garden?

I was hoping to start a small garden this spring, but I'm not sure what types of plants to start with. I'm in Monmouth county New Jersey. I need plants that do well in shade and maybe a suggestion for a fruit plant?

1. with fruit plants, you need at LEAST 2- one male and one female if you want to get anything from them and they usually take anywhere between 2 to 10 years to produce because it takes that long, depending on the plant, to mature look on the backs of planting labels/seeds and find your zone on the back- that will give you an idea of what you need to plant and it tells you what requirements the plants need- how deep to plant the plant/seeds, how much water the require, how much sun the require and how long it takes for the plants/seeds to grow and mature and produce also, take a soil sampling so you can see the pH level, nitrogen, phosphorous, and potash levels, each plant you grow needs a different level of each, and a lot of plants have a general growing 'level' that "inter-twines" with other plants also you can buy soil samplers at home depot or lowes and it says something like 'soil test kit' on front of the package
