- it looks nice, just remember black shows all the dust and smudge marks... I wish you luck
- I have to say nice style. I've always liked the black and white theme myself. I'm not thrilled about the shelf. I have a feeling it will be easy to trip over and take up more room than it's worth. but the rest of it is cool. One way to really make a room look dressier is to put some light curtains on the windows. Perhaps this one: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80117478 It might be a good idea to put some wood pieces in the room to liven it up a bit, otherwise the black and white can get tiring. And please sit down and figure out how much money you actually have to spend on new furniture! There are always extra costs related to moving out that you never thought of before. Just don't go overboard with the spending, trust me.
- It will look nice - - go for it. Walk around items in discount stores, etc.. for ideas. How about a mirror in a black frame. Perhaps some gold or brass decor. Black iron candle sconces for the wall. Throw rug.
- Black and white is an excellent choice. I have had black bedroom furniture for about 20 years and I'm still not tired of it. It goes with everything. I think the best comforter set that I put with it was grey and white. It really looked sharp. For curtains, if you have enough black in the room, stick to sheers. Too much black can be opressive. Sheers really lighten it up, plus you can buy them anywhere and they are inexpensive. Personally, I would get some measurements for the apartment and then go shop at IKEA because when you are there you see so much more! Since its your first place, I would also see if there are any family pieces you can take with you. You can always paint them black to match your theme. Its always nice to have something around from your old home in your new home. It grounds everything and makes you feel like you've been there a little longer. Walmart has just started carrying some really nice black dining sets and black computer armoirs that can also be used for a TV. They are pretty nice. Put them on casters and they will be easier to move around the apartment if you have the need. The armoirs for the tv and computer are nice because they give you a contained "closet" for both items you can just close up when you want to entertain. Have a great time and enjoy shopping for your new place! Good luck!
