What is drawing salve?
I asked people what I should do because I happened to be at a party and ended up tripping over a rock and sitting on a garden cactus plant and now the prickers are on my behind and some guy said put drawing salve on it and I didn't know what that was. And by the way, if you have a solution to my pricker problem, please do tell me. And will it be harmful to me?

- drawing salve is just like a topical ointment that goes over the skin and helps to self solve the problem so to say
- The most known drawing salve is Prid. It comes in a little orange can, can be bought at about any drug store, and it is black. It is a topical ointment, that you apply, cover, and in a few days, it will draw out the prickers.
- Drawing salve is an organic, homeopathic ointment that is used to treat rashes, burns, cuts, stings, splinters, etc. It has never been proven to work and is not approved by the FDA. I suggest using an antibiotic cream or ointment and some bandaids, or go see a doctor.
- There is an ointment named Ichthammol Ointment 20% by Goldine Labaoratories Inc. There may be other makers -- but this is the source of mine. It is a Lanolin, Petrolatum (hydrated Vasoline), and Tar-based thick ointment that for years has been used sucessfully for exactly what you asked -- a drawing salve. I've used it for the sort of thing you are suffering from sucessfully for many years. You should be able to have any decent pharmacy or drug-chain order it for you -- it's cheap and it works. But -- if you don't get results, and or if these things really hurt you and don't come out of your "bum" -- do see a physician lest they become infected, or you have a sensitivity to what you sat on. Referring to PAZ840's answer -- I disagree. It most certainly has been approved by the FDA --if not; it wouldn't have been on the market for the 30+ years (maybe longer) I've been familiar with it. And I learned of it's uses by MDs -- before homeopathic medicine was really known or popular in the US. And let's not forget -- while antibiotics are very appropriate and powerful drugs -- they should NOT be overused. They should ONLY be used when and where there is a detected or stronly suspected infection. As a culture we have been much too free with antibiotics; and resultinly have developed an immunity to them....Thus we should save the antibiotics for when and only when they are really needed. Hope this helps.
- Ichthammol Ointment. You can get it from your veterinarian. The old folks always talked about drawing salves so I think they must work. Its just a home remedy. Good Luck with the butt.
