Are garden ponds and creeks influenced by some plants on the side?
Because I want to keep my fish healthy, I wonder if some plants further in the garden could influence the quality of the water, come Spring and especially Autumn. Are there any trees or brush that I should avoid, can grass be harmful?

- whatever falls into your pond will reduce the water quality, oxygen is used to break down the leaves etc. as they decay, causing your fish to skim the top of the pond as the water is not oxygenated enough.
- HI-Robert,With a pond you nead plenty of plants & lilies iff it is hot the fish shelter under them & feed you also reqiure a pump to give oxigen to the water + oxigen plants the more you have the better your pond, Its best to talk to someone about it a & the will tell you of any pitfalls you may expierence, dont be afraid of asking any questions the more you ask the more you will learn, but you will nead to cover your pond over with a sheet when it is very sunny as the sun takes the oxigen out of the water, hope this has helped you, D.F;
- I think the only way plants outside of your pond will influence your pond is when their leaves,flower petals,seeds or berries get into the pond water. When that breaks down it causes algae and water discoloration. Aquatic plants and grasses are good for your fish as they furnish filtration and oxygen but don't let grass clippings from lawn mowing get in your pond!
- The Roots will grow far and the leaves will blow even further. I would say to just keep the water clean by dipping out the leaves and line the pond with something like plastic would help.
- I can't think of anything that would be lethal to your pond (plant or tree wise) but leaves can be deadly if you let them build up, try to scoop leaves out regularly
