  1. Try getting lots of petunias and pansies this year for the front, and plant zinnias behind. Those are both annual flowers that will go NUTS if you give them good soil and compost as fertilizer. In the fall, plant bulbs like daffodils and tulips between the two 'annual' beds ... meanwhile get a good garden book with the 'zones' different things can be planted in to do best as well as sun exposure and water needs. Eventually you will be a 'real gardener' with a lovely garden, but those annuals all bloom like crazy and give you time to 'learn.' The daffodils have some chemicals that do affect the heart, but most animals, both wild and domestic, have the good sense not to eat them.
  2. selection of plants in your garden depends on your local weather ,best way is to check with local nurseres they have plants suitable for your area.
  3. "Kudzu" springs to mind, but if you live at all near the southeastern US, they might think you crazy and sue you for growing a weed that takes over everyone's yard. It is a vine, and *can* flower, but mostly just leaves. Animals (cows, goats, sheep, etc.) can eat it; and it is said to reduce alcoholism in people.
