Are rocks in your garden harmful to your plants or are they just annoying?

Public Comments

  1. Rocks aren't harmful to your plants. Just annoying when you are weeding them out. When I have a garden planted, I make sure the rows are far enough apart to use a roto tiller to get between the rows. This works great, because the tiller pulls the rocks to the surface, and you can easily remove them. Good luck!
  2. Plants & rocks are natural phenomenon, and usually get along fine..... they can be a bit of an eyesore in fancy flowerbeds, but of course in some cases they can also be used as a decorative feature (e.g. a Rockery / alpine garden).
  3. Rocks are only harmful if they are in sufficient quantity to prevent root growth.
  4. Rocks are not a problem in your garden beds. In fact, they can assist in soil aeration.
