  1. Winter flowers. i have never heard of such things. try snowdrops they are the earliest ones to bloom i think.
  2. There isn't a lot of winter flowers, except pansies which are the most common. You can also plant heather, it has nice purple flowers in January/February and of course all the bulbs, especially snow drops because they flower early in the winter like January/February
  3. http://www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/htbg/module8/winter.shtml Try here all sorts of tips etc. Mention of viburnum, winter jasmine and winter honeysuckle. Of course as well as these you have your evergreens too http://Wii.real-incentives.com/14395 get your wii here!
  4. One of my winter favorites is the Cape Honeysuckle / Tecomaria capensis. It flowers more in cold weather (but, can freeze back). It is a vine-like bush from the Cape of S. Africa, which can be pruned (hard!) into a small tree, or, woven through a wire fence in order to form a rough hedge. It needs very good drainage, doing very well on hillsides. It has bright, shiny green, leaves, & bright orange-red tubular flowers that hummingbirds & Oriols like (one of the reasons I like it!). If it freezes back, it looses its leaves & flowers, but the stems often grow them back when temperatures warm back up. 5. There are many winter flowering plants to choose from. I am not sure where you are, country or zone etc. so you will have to check if they are hardy for you. This is one of my favourites and will flower right through winter if the temperatures stay mild enough. It needs a moist soil in full sun Schizostylis http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=schizostylis&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi For a climber nothing beats winter flowering jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum)http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=Jasminum+nudiflorum&btnG=Google+Search&meta= Winter flowering shrubs are a must and not just flowers but berries too especially if you like birds in your garden. Pyracantha http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=pyracantha&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi Guelder rose (Viburnum opulus)http://images.google.co.uk/images?um=1&hl=en&q=viburnum+opulus+berries&btnG=Search+Images For flowers try Viburnum tinushttp://images.google.co.uk/images?um=1&hl=en&q=viburnum+tinus Lonicera fragrantissima http://images.google.co.uk/images?um=1&hl=en&q=Lonicera+fragrantissima&btnG=Search+Images Smells wonderful too. Viburnum x bodnantense http://images.google.co.uk/images?um=1&hl=en&q=Viburnum+%C3%97bodnantense+&btnG=Search+Images. That one smells good as well. Don't forget Iris unguicularis http://images.google.co.uk/images?um=1&hl=en&q=Iris+unguicularis&btnG=Search+Images and in the early part of February Iris reticulata put in an appearance http://images.google.co.uk/images?um=1&hl=en&q=Iris+reticulata Finally there are all the coloured stems of the dogwoods (Cornus) my favourite is Cornus sanguinea Midwinter Fire and it is smaller than most so won't take over the garden http://images.google.co.uk/images?um=1&hl=en&q=Cornus+sanguinea+Midwinter+Fire+&btnG=Search+Images
  6. Pansies and cyclamen do well. I've planted up my hanging baskets with these and some variegated ivy, it looks lovely :)
  7. cyclamen and pansies are colourful with any evergreens you cant go wrong
  8. You might be better off with shrubs. There are some that have orange or red berries on which also feed the birds. There is also one you can get with yellow flowers on called a christmas rose (I think) and one that has like little white balls on. You could also plant a winter cherry as that has pink flowers on it in the winter. Ask at your local garden centre or go on line to gardeners world or other website.
