Growing a garden and fruit trees in Texas? We are starting a garden. What fruits and vegetables are easy to grow in a hot climate? We don't like tomatoes, so those are off the list no matter what lol. But our local garden shop sells orange and lemon trees, and strawberries and blackberries. We are beginners, and don't want anything complicated until we get the hang of things.
To what extent do garden plants & trees absorb environmental toxins? If there is leaking sewage from your neighbors, will your edible plants like lettace, rhubarb and fruit trees absorb the toxins and make you sick? Does any one know about having black walnut trees and a garden? My parents have been trying to grow a garden for several years now. Everything they seem to plant dies off rather quickly. They asked around and were told it was because they have two black walnut trees. Does any one know how this works? Is there a certain distance you need to keep? Are there vegetables that are immune to them? Or is the only way to stop it by cutting the trees down? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
What is the law about growing trees in your back garden? How high trees are allowed to grow in the back gardens in the UK. My neighbour asked me to cut my trees short. I planted these trees 6 years ago and I was waiting for the moment they grow high enough to give me some privacy when I sit in my garden. I'm not the type who have garden parties unlike most of my neighbours. The neighbour asked to cut the trees as they block the light into his garden, which is not completely true. Does anyone know anything about the law in the UK regarding that? Thanks!
How can I get the trees in my back garden cut down so I can use my TV? My satellite dish is in my back garden and there are some trees like 20metres in front of the dish and they are blocking the satellite signal. I got the council out to cut the trees down last time but they said they won't do it again because they said they don't cut down trees for satellite dishes. So is there anyway I could get these trees cut down? Thanks.
Leylandii - what's the legal position on someone else's trees blocking out light to our garden? Can we force them to cut them down. The bottom part of our garden goes into shade from about 4pm onwards due to some Leylandii trees that were put in by a neighbour. These trees are right next to an alleyway that runs between their garden and ours, and the trees are also causing cracking in the concrete. Can they be forced to cut them down if they are shown to be causing damage to the public highway?
I had a dream about planting trees in a mini garden? What does that mean? I had a dream last night where I was planting baby trees in a tiny garden (like one of those hanging garden things that goes in a balcony)... It was 2 or 3 normal leafy trees, then a weeping willow, and a mini bamboo tree. they were all very tiny. It was slightly rediculous, because the trees obviously would out grow the container holding the baby trees and soil. Any suggestions to what it could mean?
Walnut trees and garden don't mix? I have a large number of walnut trees and I have heard they give off a toxic substance that discourages a vegetable garden? Any suggestion on how I can have my garden and walnuts Answers 3 and 4 are very helpful. The raised garden sounds like a good idea but also expensive.

why are there hundreds of elm trees growing in my garden? The neighbours have an elm, but all over my garden are hundreds of little elm trees. They are really stubborn to dig out and I dont want elms all over my garden. Some are taller than me. What as caused this sudden sprouting and how can I get rid of them?
How can I find out what kind of trees I have in my back garden? My neighbour and I have lots of trees in our back gardens but I don't know the names of these trees, how can I found out? Sometimes I see things growing on the bark of the tree they're grey, shaped like a rice farmers hat and are white around the edges? What are they? Cheers!
Can I put branches from the trees in my garden in my mouse tank? They are not treated with chemicals, they are pine tree type trees. If I put some in should I bake them at 180 degrees like I do for my snake? I put some braches in with her before after cooking them. (To remove germs). I just want to give them more to climb on as it's a 3ft glass tank with a mesh lid.
Are there any short gnarled and twisted trees that will grow great in a garden? I'm starting a garden of plants with bright colors and cool shapes and I kind of got inspiration from reading about the garden at the Burrow as described in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. What's a really cool (and kind of spooky) gnarled up and twisted tree that would add a unique twist to a garden? by gnarled, I mean that the trunk is knotted and twisted as well, not just the branches.
Any advice about neighbours complaining about trees in my garden? Basically, a neighbour has come round and said that they want to get tree surgeons round to cut branches off a tree in my garden. Apparently the leaves are causing a slip hazard to another of the neighbours, who is 82. They have had a quote of £250 +VAT and want me to contribute/pay in full. There's 3 main issues: I like the trees - there's more than 1 tree anyway and how do they know it's my tree's leaves causing the problem? Should I pay anything at all? Should I be concerned about this older lady and her ability to live on her own independently - is this tree problem just the tip of the iceberg? Do I take legal advice? Do I ignore it completely? My house is currently up for sale with the sale hopefully completing in the next few weeks so I really don't need this stress! Do I have to tell my solicitor? Advice please!!
Spacing fruit trees in a garden? I have planted two 2-year-old trees (a peach and a plum, not dwarf) in my garden about 15 feet apart from each-other. They are unhindered on all other sides. I'm worried now that they're too close together and that as they grow, they will begin to obstruct each-other. Should I dig them up and place them further apart, or can I just keep them in check by pruning? The peach is a Belle of Georgia and the plum is a Santa Rosa.
We have 3 large Trees in our garden, which we thought were some? sort of cherry. They have now small red/peach coloured fruits with stones, similar to plums. Anyone know what they are. Sorry cannot do photo. Have just eaten one, very sweet and the inside tastes like a plum. They are 4cm around and about 3cm deep. Its confused us as they are a differnt shape to a plum and on a huge tree.
Will ants in my garden harm the plants and trees? I moved to a new house and decided to improve my landscaping. When I removed the old mulch from around the trees and shrubs in my front bed, I discovered it is full of ants. Do I let them be and just put new mulch on top pretending I never saw them or will they eventually take over and kill my trees and shrubs?

How do I find out what type of plants/trees I have growing my garden? I just bought a house and I am wondering what these smaller trees are called? The past owners planted a bunch of everything mixed among each other. I know that next to a shrub, I have a chive plant growing on one side. But, how do I find out what these trees are called? I have one of each side of the house, and I'm just curious. Is there any site or anything? I'll take some pictures in the morning to anyone that might have an idea, my e-mail is: ashleyheeter@gmail.com
Council Owned Trees overhanking my garden? I have a number of council owned extremely large trees overhanging both front and rear gardens. I have to have the lights on most of the day,and this is expensive .The Council will not cut the branches back. Can I pay for them to be cut back by a tree surgeon and send the bill to the Council?
What happens when you remove the trees in your Pet Society garden? I know that you can just pull out the fruits and vegetables and then sell them. But when I click on the trees a dialog box pops out asking me if I want to remove it. I say yes, and then another one comes up asking me "are you sure"? This has given me the impression that I shouldn't pull them out, but I don't know. Can you sell the trees? Is it okay to remove them?
Advice needed on tall trees/bushes to plant next to neighbours low back garden fence? My neighbours back garden fence (their fence) is chest height and we dont have much privacy in our garden, esp because they have regular parties. Can you recommend any tall leafy fast-growing plants/trees/bushes that can eventually grow to 5ft or 6ft? We are a family with 2 kids and lost of lost footballs and they are all nice young foreign students/tenants. I think my neighbours would appreciate some privacy boundary too. Any suggestions?

After storm damage to a garden tree can I expect the Insce Co to pay for total tree removal? A tree in my garden drops a large branch in a storm, which damages fences and the Insce Co agree to clean up the debris. A second branch, still on the tree, is weakened & threatens my house which is underneath. The Insce Co agrees to cover removal of this branch but an arborists report says that the rest of the tree over a neighbours house will be unstable after cutting off the second branch. Can I expect the Insce Co to pay for total tree removal?
Which small garden tree would be appropriate for my front bed? The bed is about 8 foot diameter. It butts up to my front porch, so the roof is right beside the area over the garden. I need a tree that won't grow very large. I'd love it to be green all year round, but that's not a must have. My house faces north and I'm in the South-Midwest US, 7a hardiness zone, I believe if I read the map correctly. Very hot and humid. Thanks for any suggestions!
Are there still apple trees in the Garden of Eden? Although I am an Atheist I think that after I die I will fly straight to Heaven, and apples are one of my favorite fruits. So I ask you, religious folks, what would the punishment be if I was Tempted by Satan to eat some delicious apples there. This is a very straight forward question that begs a serious answer. Thanks a lot.
