Will Ortho Weed-B-Gon Pro (for broadleaf weeds) harm my garden or flower beds? Our lawn was serviced by Scott's and the weed killer was added to our flower beds and part of the vegetable garden, which I'm planning on seeding within a few weeks. I need help planning my flower garden? I want to remove my hostas and my tiger lilies. How do I pull them up and stop them from returning? In addition, I want to put in new perennials, hardy ones that can handle Michigan's unpredictable climate. I want coreopsis because I know they grow well in that section of my yard, but after that I'm lost. I have some Asiatic lilies in that area that do well. They can stay, and I don't mind adding more. The space I'm working with has a northern exposure that is about 20 feet long and four feet wide. I also have lots of big rocks that I've collected from hiking along the Great Lakes that I keep in there too. I would like this area to look like I know what I'm doing, even though I don't. I appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks.

Also would planting them so late in the year cause them not to come back the following year? Thanks

We have plenty of plantable space, but very little knowledge of gardening! We want a flower garden that is low maitenence. We both have busy schedules, and though we're planning on putting in effort, working on the garden daily would not be possible for us. We are looking to plant perenials and not have to replant every year. We just want a pretty but simple garden that will not require us to spend excess amounts of time working on it. I don't know anything about different flowers with different climates, but we live in central Ohio. Experienced gardeners: do you have any suggestions for what to plant and how to start?

Flower garden/hedges/bushes? HELP!? Okay so I'm trying to make my yard look great this summer. My back yard is going to have a deck, rock garden, and little pond for for gold fish. (Needs to be a smaller tree though). We tore out six really ugly, thorny bushes (I have a toddler and the thorns weren't a good idea) and I would like to replace them with a flower bed and a couple flowery, nice looking bushes or some hedges. I have most of my flowers picked out, but I need some help on deciding what kinds of bushes/hedges and what kind of tree to replace the two trees with. Any ideas? Thank you!

Planting wildflowers around my veggie garden- Good Plan? I'm going to have a garden 50' x90' and an addition 20x'40' with tomatoes. I was planning on planting a 2-4 foot wide strip of mixed wildflowers round the edge to help attract bees and stuff. Is this a good plan? I'm running drip irgation to the garden, will the flowers need to be watered this way also? I'm in zone 7 with very sandy soil. Thanks in advance! To reply to 3rd comment: The garden will be in a already fenced area which has a wide gate for tractor access and I'll be planting the flowers around outside the fence so it wont be hindering the garden at all. The Tomatoes will be grown right next to the fenced area where last years garden was so they are connected and easy access. I'm planting so much becauce I will be home canning most of it from my family and close relatives. We have sucessfully grown everything before, I just want to do it bigger and better then before. We have gotten a tractor and plows so it wont be as big of a chore. Plus we're multching everything and combined with the drip irrgation that should keep alot of the weeds down. I'm a stay at home mom so I've got the time it will take. I've even got the wildflower seeds already due to some deaths in the family and they make thoes packets up for people and we have a bunch left over. Thanks for the thoughts and advice from everyone!
Tips for a plant and flower garden? I have a garden area full of weeds and grass, and I intend to turn it into soil, and plant vegetables and some flowers there. Some things I have already germinated and do intend to plant: Grape Tomatoes Tomatoes (Early girl and Big boy) (Bought as a plant) JalapeƱo Peppers Celery Zinnia flower Butterfly flower Strawberry (bought as a plant) -- Some that I have NOT germinated yet but have the seeds for: Watermelons -- Some that I am planning to plant: Corn Potatoes -- I did alot of work on the weeds and i was about 80% done. Unluckily for me it was pouring rain all week on and off, preventing me from doing anything with the garden. I was surprised to find out the WHOLE GARDEN grew back weeds. Any useful tips on how to quickly rid my garden, and any general tips for what I'm growing?
any good links containing garden plans or designs? ? I am trying to plan my very first garden for next spring. I'm very confused. I'm not sure what to plant in the fall and what to save for the spring. How do I stop cats and/or dogs using my garden as a toilet? I have a lawned open plan front garden and a walled back garden with a lawn and bedding areas. Both the lawns and flower beds get used as a toilet. I have tried putting "prickle strips" on top of the wall, the cats now go over or under the wooden gates. Is there a website that has gardening plans with pictures? I'm a beginner at gardening and don't know what flowers and plants look nice together or how to plant them. So I am looking for a site that has examples of gardens and points out what kind of flowers and plants were used. I found Burpee.com which sells a kit but I am looking for something more detailed. It doesn't even need to be a plant selling company. Or maybe a web site of experts that i can send a picture to and could label the flowers.
What kind of Valentines Day flower would you suggest? My church's Youth group and I were planning on passing out flowers on Valentines Day at a local nursing home. Unfortunately, most flowers (especially roses like we were planning) get really expensive that time of year. And we're a poor crowd. What kind of flower would you suggest? Can anyone suggest an edging for my small front garden? I have a very small front garden which is paved and open plan. At the moment I have flower tubs on it but children tend to play around there and because it's open plan they pick my flowers etc. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a cheap edging to put around the garden (it's a weird shape) just to discourage small children from playing on there, bearing in mind that it is paved and not soil. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks for answers so far. Can I just explain that I live in a quiet country village at the bottom of a cul-de-sac NOT a city/town/built up area. I don't remember saying I lived in a built up area. ???? Anyway, I am a primary school teacher so well used to dealing with kids. I am not averse to the children playing, just want to define my area a bit more. These are 2-4 year old children who really shouldn't be playing out on their own but because we live in such a quiet rural area their parents think they are safe. I just wanted to make it clear that we are not dealing with older children or an inner-city area here, just a little garden definition. Sorry for confusion.

Laying pavers in front yard for a mini flower garden. Need help.? I'm putting about 30 feet of paver stones, about 3-high, around the front of my house. I plan to put soil in it and some plants. I've never done this before and am not sure what I need or how to dig. Do I need to get crushed stone to lay underneath? Do I need to dig out some for the pavers to sit? Is there anything else I need to know? I plan on setting the pavers about 2.5 feet out from the house. Thanks. Thanks for the replies, but this is only going to be about 3/4' high. Very minor project. I think getting some crushed stone as a foundation will work best.
Mulching and weed prevention? I'm creating a flower garden and was planning on just using mulch for weed prevention. My husband thinks we have to use the fabric stuff plus mulch. who is right? I think just the mulch itself should do the trick.

landscaping questions? We're in the process of putting a chain link fence up in the backyard and we want some shrubs to cover part of it. We purchased 4 PJM Rhododendrons and 3 White light Azaleas. I'm not sure if these should be placed in groupings of the same shrub or alternating every other shrub. I'm not sure what is usually done to look the best. Is the Moon Flower vine as invasive as Morning Glories are? I started some Moon Flowers indoors and want to plan where I'm going to plant them. If they're invasive, I'll plant them farther from the rest of my garden. Will they choke other plants by spiraling around them? Will they self sow and become a nuisance?
How many flowers does a tulip plant produce?? I am planning to grow tulips in my garden. The flowers look beautiful but I have really not seen a second flower growing (after the first flower dies or breaks). I want to know how it works. After the first flower blossoms and dries up, do more flowers grow on it one after the other or the plant then is a total waste??

I wonder whether there are any plans or flowers that you can grow for winter in Scotland(eastern part)? I've got some empty pots and they look boring in my garden. I'd really appreciate your advice on planting during winter time. Promise to give the highest score for a reasonable answer!!
What do I do with my compost pile? So I thought I'd get a head start on my garden planning last year, and I threw all of the dog poop from the yard into the compost pile that I'm starting. Now it's the spring, and I'd like to get serious about this pile, but I'm reading that you shouldn't compost dog poop because of harmful viruses and parasites. Do I have to start over? Or can I just use what I've got on my flowers but not my veggies?
Should you need planning permission to plant a tree in your garden? Some of them get so big they can block light from neighbors property. Also the roots could damage foundations. You are not allowed to plant what you want in your allotment and you can be prosecuted for planting flowers on waste ground
