How to start a garden nursery and fruit tree orchard? I'm going to be buying about 100 acres for about 2 million dollars in central Ohio. I've always wanted to start my own nursery but I have a few questions about doing so. First of all where do I get the plants and trees? Also things like flowers and tropical house plants to sell. I'd also like to sell mulch, garden decorations, seeds, and also things like stone and patio pavers. Where do I get this stuff from, and probably in wholesale? I'd also like to plant peach, apple, nectarine, etc. trees so people can come and pick the fruit and stuff. I'd also like to try grapes and banana, lime, orange, and lemon tree in greenhouses. Where can I get the things like greenhouses from also. I'd also like vegetables and things. How much will all of this cost and how much money can I make a year from this business. There would also have to be like a water pond and a system to water all of the plants. Now I'd probably only want to use about 50 of the acres, maybe 75 alltogether of the 100

How to get the trees in? I bought a new house and want to remodel the garden (back yard). However the garden has no trees and low-ish fences and just seems too exposed to me. Hence I want to buy mature trees from a tree nursery. Now although my house is detached, the building is only about 2-3 metres away from the neighbour's houses on each side and so I'm wondering how exactly I can get the trees into my garden? Also I'm back to back with another house!

What would be a good name for my nursery/garden center? We will be selling plants, trees, shrubs, garden supplies, etc. We will be selling to homeowners/renters, businesses, and landscaping businesses, so I don't want a name that may deter either market. For instance, I like the name "Backyard Escapes", but it is geared towards individuals rather than businesses. Also, a lot of the names I have thought of are already taken. I want to plant trees/garden..how do I keep then from dieing? I live in the Sandhills of NC...the ground isn't very soil-ey it has a lot of sand (hence, Sandhills) the trees we have in our yard now are pine, oak and some other hickory things. i want to plant magnolia and flowering pear trees, and also some fruit trees. Young maple tree where nursery pruned leader? Will it recover a natural shape? I purchased a young Autumn Blaze Maple about 3 weeks ago from a local garden center. I picked this tree because it was the tallest but recently noticed that one of the two leaders that has branched out from the main trunk has been pruned. Will this pruned leader destroy the natural shape of the tree forever (like topping) or can I expect a young tree (about 6ft) to recover and grow into a natural shape? The other leader is about 8 inches taller and has not been pruned.

Help with naming my Farm? 11 acres pasture & trees with a canyon located on atop a hill. Have horses, planning to build a riding arena. It is our home where we are starting a garden & tree nursery. Are dwarf alberta spruce trees suitable for creating a hedge? I've been trying to find a good windbreak/hedge for my northern Michigan garden. On a recent foray to a nursery, I noticed the dwarf alberta spruce trees and immediately fell in love. Garden Nurseries/Catalog House? Seeking a catalog nursery, the name which begins with "S". They supply the more unusual bulbs, perenials, shrubs and trees as well as some of the traditionals. It is safe to say that this house is a little more specialized in offering something different. I have recently moved and wanted to find them again that I may include them in my new landscape. I'm looking for either a SoCal nursery or online merchant selling both Holiday and Whitsell avocado trees? I can't locate a local nursery selling either of these two variety of avocado trees. I've been to a number of Home Depot/Lowe's/Armstrong Garden Center/etc.as well and all they seem to carry are your run of the mill Hass/Fuerte/Bacon avocado variety but not the smaller dwarf variety that I am looking for here. What is the problem with my 'young' apple tree? My young 'Apple Sunset' tree 3yrs old, bought from a reputable nursery earlier this year, has just recently gone brown on the leaves with a squiggly white line on them, (not all) nothing on the back of the leaves. Term of sale, 2/20 and net 30? I know what term of sale mean but I confuse when the customers pay half? Here is my question 7/12, Garden Nursery sold plants and trees on credit to Siti Garden 4000, giving terms of 2/20, net 30. 15/12, Siti Garden settled half of the amount with cash 30/12, Siti Garden settled full amount owing with cash. My question is, do I need to calculate 2% when she pay half on 15/12? Or this discount can only be used when the customer paid full amount they owing? Should I open discount allowable ledger?

Watering tips for flower garden and a tree... what would you recommend? I recently put together a small flower garden for my mom and we planted some lilies, carnations, johnny jump-ups and a few other kinds of small flowers. I also planted a red bud tree, and two small patches of ornamental pampas grass. All the plants were labeled as low maintenance, so my only question is about the watering. How often, how much, and for how long before I just let mother nature take over watering? What would you recommend for a watering schedule for each of these: 1) the flower garden 2) the red bud tree 3) the pampas grass I've not had much luck growing things before and I was told by someone at a plant nursery that about 80% of plants die from improper watering habits. Can anyone help me out? Okay well for soil our yard is mostly sand. It's not great soil so we worked some gardening dirt and manure into the flower bed. Help!!! Big pine trees!? I have two very big pine trees in my small yard. I know now that it was stupid to plant them as they are now HUGE but knowing nothing about gardening the man at the nursery told me they would not grow too big. Anyway, they look like they are never going to stop growing and even though I love them and get the bottom branches removed fairly regularly, I was wondering if it is safe to keep them in the yard. I know it would cost a fortune to have them removed so I get a gardener in from time to time to prune bottom branches. The top ones are way too high to reach. I have had conflicting opinions on these trees from different people and am scared they are going to start ripping up paths, damaging plumbing etc. in the future. I have no lawn to speak of and other trees are dying due to these lovely but impractical trees!!! Any advice would be helpful....I am in South Australia (very dry here). They are about 13 years old.

I hear sometimes of "organic" control, but I assume that means the toxins used are not harmful to OTHER animals, rather than non-lethal at all. I know in gardens and such, predators are encouraged, but I can't imagine this would be practical or foolproof in large scale commercial enterprises, and I expect that in all these places, horticulturists regularly lay down chemicals or spray lethal substances on crops? I would like to hear if there are alternative practises. what i am interested in are methods that do not kill anything, even the intended target: ie they repel them or "clean" the surface. included in this would be ways of farming and growing which made insect/pest accessibility scarcer such as growing under nets or in greenhouses, though I do not know the effectiveness of this. i am also intrigued by the fact that i, and others i know, grow vegetables to eat, yet use no pesticides. why do commercial growers need to do so? are the pesticides introduced on as "as and when" basis, or routinely?

Would you care to join me in my garden? I include this in the poetry section as this is where all of my friends are. The Ravens are back. Not since two seasons ago have they strutted in my garden as if they owned all they surveyed. One has taken to soaking a piece of dry hard bread in my birdbath. It floats like some abandoned Coracle until, saturated with water, it drifts like a miniature Sargasso Sea, buffeted by a wash caused by the Parakeets having flown in for their early morning ablutions. I notice the Raven perched in a nearby Gum Tree softly singing to itself as it waits its turn at the bath. It would be no effort for it fly down and scatter the bathers. No, it waits patiently until they have all finished. I have discovered that there is wisdom in its patience. The bathers while they flap about break up the now soft bread into bite sized pieces. What a clever bird the Raven is. The younger birds, as children are want at bath time, test the water with their toes to see that it is not to cold or to hot. Then before you know it, all are slashing about sending up sun kissed drops of water, each gem perfect in shape and color. Liquid opals sent cascading onto the velvet petals of Pansies and Tiger Lilies. Nature’s showcase of precious gems. I have noticed an endless line of ants coming from somewhere deep within the gardens greenery. How clever they are, to choose the fallen branch from an overhanging Gum tree as a pathway to the birdbath, where they make their way up the steep climb to vanish between the bowl and its stand. Sometime this summer they will come to the edge of the bath in their hundreds,when the winged females will launch themselves into the air to seek out new places to start their own colonies. A large Hornet, dressed in its orange and black striped finery buzzes around my head before settling to drink at the waters edge. She does not drink for long, just long enough to satisfy her thirst. then flying down to the ground she will mix the wet soil into a ball of mud, and carry it of to some access within the walls of my home. I often hear her buzzing as she molds each pea size piece of mud into a tubular nursery for her solitary egg. Before laying her egg and sealing off the entrance. She will paralyze two or three insects with her sting and place them in the nursery; a waiting meal for the newly hatched grub. What a thoughtful mother she is. All is peaceful in my beautiful garden, even the large Golden Orb spider, as big as the palm of my hand holds no fears for me. She sits in the center of her golden web which gently moves as the morning breeze brings the scent of the Mock Orange to my nose. Something heavy moves across my bare foot; a Blue Tongue Lizard stops for a while as if soaking up the warmth of my foot. Its purplish blue tongue flicks in and out tasting the air. Smooth as a guided missile it lumbers off and disappears into the a clump of Comfrey. The Raven flies down from her perch, impatient at the Noisy Minors taking so long in the Bird Bath. Her bread so lovingly placed in the water has all sunk to the bottom. Not to miss out on her breakfast she dips her head time and time again. Flying off with a noisy Kaa Kaa she leaves me to change the water. How fortunate a man I am to have such miracles in my garden. Thank you for the correction "foggisan".

did i do the right thing for my garden? advice? i never planted plants before <or maybe i did but that's just something for school, so anyway> but did some research and planning before doing some gardening in our front yard and now i'm worried that i may have had put too much steer manure blend in our garden. well, you see, this is what i did: - tilled the soil about 6-8 inches. - put 2-4 inch layer of Steer manure blend. Label: http://www.scotts.com/smg/catalog/productTemplate.jsp?tabs=general&proId=prod70587&itemId=cat60014&id=cat140002 basically not pure manure- it was mixed with compost and a whole lot of other organic stuff - added some potting mix, can't remember how much <forgot the brand name and its contents but i'm pretty sure that it's almost the same as the steer manure blend and something says slow-nitrogen release> - mixed them all together. - wet the soil - wait about 30 mins - planted some plants, dug deeper holes for replanting the big-rooted ones <bird of paradise, lily-of-the-nile/agapanthus, african iris, some daisies but not the gerber type, non-english lavender, sweet pea shrub, false heather, and some pansies> retained the soil from the pot though, which was originally from the nursery. watered the plants lightly mulched, about 1-2 inches <w/ tree barks, i don't know which from> i live in southern california and the soil here is not ideal for gardening and ours is like the dirt you see in a typical southern california freeway- very dry, dusty, pale, hard, compact, and rocky; so amending the soil is a definite must. the steer manure blend bag says 'put 1 inch or less' but our soil was never fertilized and amended before so i opted to put more to attain that dark rich-looking soil; so now i'm a bit worried coz i'm not sure if i over did it. btw, its in zone 8b, partial shade/sun. early morning and late afternoon sun. maybe that would minimize the burning effect of over-fertilizing.

Where can I buy a frankincense tree sapling? Google and Yahoo are being pretty useless. Does anyone know of any online plant nurseries or possibly a real tore that would carry a frankincense tree sapling? I doubt that Navlet's or the Target Garden Center would carry one.

Any suggestions for shade garden? I live in SE Tennessee. I am working on a mostly shaded part of our yard. We have an area for a fire pit/cook out area with a picnic table and patio area and a walk way. The area is mostly shaded but has sunlight in the early morning and late evening. I am not familiar with flower/plant choices and figured it would be more productive to ask for help. My local nursery was not much help. I would like to plant some kind of ground cover between the bricks for the patio/walk way area. I also wanted to ask opinions on whether or not lavender would be a viable option in an area like this. Three other points: needs to be mostly low maintenance (not having to re-plant lots of stuff every year), colorful would be nice and there are pine trees that shade the area. Help? Help for Facebook the Sims Social?!? my quest, Garden of Delights, which involve having a phone, calling tree nursery on phone and water 4 plants. i can do everything, but to the watering plants part, i watered 2 and it could load then. the subsequent plants i watered cannot load, and i have watered many plants from then on to see of 1 day it will work. but still, this is a problem which remains, and has hindered my progress greatly. is there any way to fix this? or if possible, how do i write a report to the Sims Social administrators to look into this case? thanks.

I purchased a Prairie Fire crabapple tree. It is small. Will it grow? I asked it when I purchased my tree but I would like another answer. I purchased a prairie fire crabapple tree from a good garden center in Minnesota. The tree is small about 5- 5 ½ feet tall. It has very good dark reddish brown color on the trunk and wonderful color on the leaves, with buds still visible. What I am nervous about is that it is a little tree. By that I mean the trunk of the tree isn’t very big in diameter. You could use your thumb and ring finger and put it around the tree. And there are not a ton of branches on it yet. I feel it’s just a very young tree and given time it will grow. Do I need to be concerned about it? Some people think it’s too small because other garden centers have these trees for sale but they are much bigger. Will mine grow? they assured me it would at the garden center. And gave me paperwork that all their trees come with a 1 year gaurantee on them. The tree was grown at a reputable nursery in Minnesota as well. I have faith in it, but I would like other opinons! Does anyone know what a "Dog Legs" evergreen is? I was recently given a beautiful evergreen by my local nursery guy that he says he propogated from a tree he has that came from the NY Botanical Gardens. He calls it "Dog Legs". I have never seen anything like it before. His is abour 30 feet tall and has gorgeous vines draping down all over it. It almost looks like it's weeping. Pink Diamond Hydrangea Tree - full sun? HI, I have a spot in my garden that I'd like to put this tree but it is not full sun. It is full sun for a couple of hours, then partial sun the rest. Do you think it will make it there? I planted a Peegee hydrangea tree and it never came out of shock, even with deep watering, so I took it back to the nursery to see if they could revive it. My brother was in a car accident which he was left with titanium plates from skull fracture, a broken femur,tibia,humerous,pulmonary clapse and had to have a blood transfusion. The cop covered up the accident because the person that nearly killed him was the cops friend, the townships supervisors son, and also the supervisors business partner in a 500+acre tree nursery. The cop was told by a judge that it was scandelous, that he didnt do his job, and he through out the charges that the cop tried giving my brothers friend. They were all to do depositions for litigation. My brother and the witnesses did theirs. Then my mother, the cop, and another kids parents were to do theirs. The cop then died 9 days before he was to testify in his deposition from a heart attack. He was in the hospital getting treated for cancer.(karma). This insurance company then offered my brother a measily 25k.His hospital bill was over 200k. He declined and it went to court. My brother was not able to bring up his injuries in court.They offered my brother 20k if he lost and 220k if he won. They also offered my brothers friend 50k win and 5k if they lose(he was the one they claimed was at fault yet they offer him money). So day one goes by and they all testify. My brother was excited they were going to finally get justice. HELP feedback needed please!!? i am writing about imagery in the yellow wallpaper. I am stuck on the opening paragraph, and would like some feedback on what i have already wrote. Charlotte Perkins Gilman uses strong imagery in “The Yellow Wallpaper.” Imagery in the story is used throughout to reinforce the theme. When the narrator first tells you of the house she is staying at the house is described as, “beautiful…quite alone, standing well back from the road, quite three miles from the village,” (Gilman 533). To the reader this brings up a mental picture of peacefulness. To the narrator, the location of the house itself already seems to be foreshadowing isolation. The majority of the narrator’s time is spent in a nursery with, “barred windows for little children” and wallpaper with, “flamboyant patterns committing every artistic sin…the color is repellent…a smoldering unclean yellow, strangely faded by the slow-turning sunlight. It is a dull yet lurid orange in some places, a sickly sulphur tint in others,” (Gilman, 534). The reader visualizes this room as hideously ugly; to the narrator this room seems to be a prison in the making. The narrator can see a garden out of one of the nursery windows that has, “ mysterious deep-shaded arbors, the riotous old-fashioned flowers, and bushes and gnarly trees,” through another window, “a view of the bay and a little private wharf…there is a beautiful shaded lane that runs down there from the house,” (Gilman 535). The reader imagines this as an uglier outdated side of the lawn and a more peaceful prettier side. To the narrator these different views seem to be her living situation. She is secluded in an outdated ugly room with no freedom, she would like a prettier room and to have the freedom to walk down the beautiful shaded lane but her husband forbids her to.

Mimosa plant? This weekend I purchased a lovely Mimosa (longifolia )plant - the advise I was given from the nursery was not to put it in the garden while there is a chance of frost. I was hoping that this would grow in to a tree and that could survive all year long. So, is it best to keep it in a pot and take it in during the winter? Graham Hardie, Love’s Pathos (Edinburgh: Ettrick Forest Press, 2007) 45 pp. £6.99, ISBN 1-873586-28-0 There was a time when the preface and the footnotes appended to The Anathemata intrigued and nourished me more than the actual poem. Now, after many re-readings and much ‘letting be’, the poem itself shimmers in the foreground. Still, my initial response bears out Jones’ anxiety that the once-shared backgrounds which underpin his work were fast vanishing. What would he make of our age with its dream-your-own spirituality disconnected or adrift from Christianity, but where knowledge, or pretended knowledge, of arcane runes, spells, curses, and blessings are instantly accessible simply by looping into the Web? ‘… that dead symbols litter to the base of the cult-stone … that the stream is already low’ Jones certainly believed, but now perhaps in our age the litter is turned over and over more like autumn leaves than rubbish, raked and gathered in heaps to begin a slow accretion of new soil. From the debris of past mythology and the bric-a-brac of ancient or newly-minted beliefs Graham Hardie has shaped many of the poems in Love’s Pathos. The hung corpse in the tree, the raven, the emblematic wolf and crow, the huntress, the White Goddess, red seals singing of Lancelot: poem after poem takes wing from the myths and symbols which have streamed into his imaginative world from all the human tribes, mediated through pop songs perhaps or tarot cards, or the worlds of Malory, Frazer, Robert Graves, Ted Hughes. The auspice child The waking night The gliding star And heaven’s light. (p.14) Jones gathered all that was most dear to him, and, echoing Nennius sorrowing amongst the ruins of his own apocalyptic landscape, ‘made a heap of all I could find’, using footnotes glorious and rampant to elucidate the motifs and mysteries. Hardie lets his poems be and readers must make their own connections, work out their own footnotes. This carries its own dangers. If the subject matter is impenetrable to the uninitiated, then the success or the memorableness of the poem depends all the more on the poet’s technical skill to ensure that the naming and listing, the gnomic utterances, come to mean more than their parts, that the ‘angel who steals her wings/ From God’ does actually fly. Brief phrases and short poems for the most part display his ability to soar and sing, to create the magical, the unsettling and weird: the shipwreck ‘in the speckled pit of the sea’, ‘the hiatus of the night heron’, ‘… a place where we hid as children/ Under the auspice of the ancient elder tree.’ Women predominate as subject matter. The Eve/Mary dichotomy imagined by clerics all the way from the early church fathers and who knows how long before them, resonates still: woman as sorceress, temptress, consoler, healer. The Lady of the Isle, Ophelia, a Rebecca, a Melanie or simply an anonymous ‘She’ or ‘You’ are pierced with the tenderness of love, or the urgency of sexual longing. ‘Two-tier she is and there is an asking/ Price as we bid for more. It is needed all the same.’ (p. 18) The poems are interspersed with art works by Katy Jones, many of female figures at once sultry, lustful, demonic; or the cover-girl herself, flaunting her kitschy pop-song blare, frankly off-putting. Others are tender, lyrical and haunting. A young girl waits beneath a leafless tree, or rests beside a well at the centre of a garden, the image chiming with the gentle nursery song rhymes and rhythm of the words across the way in ‘Rose Garden’ with its Walter de la Mare enchantments. Hardie’s touch is much less sure in the narrative poems, (‘Poetic Voice’, ‘Stone’, ‘A Storm is Happening’, ‘Winter Blues’). The attempts to capture a moment, a white dot in a day otherwise mundane remain simply bald statements. ‘I recollect things which mean so much’ … ‘It brought back such sweet memories … It was worth the wait.’ ‘I am no romantic and I am no poet,’ he muses ruefully in “Wolf and Crow’, ‘I only collect your thoughts/ and mould them/ Into shapeless meanings.’ (p. 45) When do words become poetry? Strong emotions and treasured memories are not of themselves sufficient. Tighter editing should have excised many of these lumbering phrases (‘the view is quite unique’ … ‘unique in memory’, both alas in the same poem (p. 17); written-off ‘the fleeting morbidity of the melancholic/ Sinews of my tidal consciousness’; perhaps simply should have dumped the slighter poems that have drifted into the banality of second-rate pop songs (‘Everlasting’, ‘The Earth’) and queried whether the ‘corporate vision’ of the sleeping Rebecca could ever hope to escape the taint of management-speak. But this is a first book, and published by a small, independent press, and so to be welcomed rather than harshly censured. Going green, illegally? Help!? A few years ago, i went with a friend to the national park, and ripped out a plant, and put it in his garden. The other day, someone asked him where he got the tree from. He said from the local nursery. Is that a good excuse? Heres the follow up: that guy says he regularly visits that nursery, and pays special attention to these plants, and knows that no plant there had the same trunk shape as this one. He asked how much did it cost. My friends gave a rough value. Next minute, then man says, do you know getting plants from the bush is illegal? My friend said he didn't get it from the bush. Help! What to say? I can also get in trouble btw..im in school..so dont want any trouble now.

Paying a "starving artist" in advance? I own a greenhouse and nursery and I sell things like planters, birdseed, lawn and garden tools, outdoor power equipment, etc as well as the plants, bushes, trees, etc that is the main focus of the business. I do some landscaping and snow plowing seasonally. After Christmas is over, I am only open Saturdays until March. I am going to hire a young person to work for me for $8.50 per hour as a sales clerk. Can probably give them 100-150 hours work in February getting seeds planted into pots and flat packs. This work is only semi-automated. Honestly, this is a gift. I generally get a couple of handicapped people to help me with the planting and with tax credits, it doesn't cost me much at all. As for the 9-3 on Saturdays, I do most myself. I don't really need the help, but this person needs the work. They paint flower pots as a way to make money. They sell them on consignment. I'm going to get them a better price on terra cota pots from my wholesaler when I put my order in next month. I probably will deduct the cost of the pots as the first few sell rather than try to squeeze money they don't have out of them. Am I being to generous? Thanks.

Thanks a lot! My text: My practical training in a crèche Facility I worked in a crèche. It belongs to a nursery which is housed in an old villa. The villa is located on a hill with cherry trees. This reasoned the name of the facility. It called “Villa on the cherry hill”. It has got 3 floors and a basement. There are 9 group rooms, a small gymnasium, a workshop for children´s carpentry, a therapy room, a children´s library and a children´s cuisine. About 150 children attend this kindergarten. The youngest ones are almost a year old. They can stay in the facility till their first day at school. Disabled children are also able to attend the kindergarten. A few small and large projects happen every year for example about fairy tales. Staff Eighteen educators take care for about 150 children. In almost every group two educators take care for about 12 to 18 children. A typical course of day The nursery opens from 6 a.m. till 5 p.m. The day starts with playing. At 7.30 a.m. the children are having breakfast in their groups. Afterwards they can play or take part to different activities which are voluntary. At 9 a.m. the children sit down on the table and have some fruits and tea. When they´re finished either they play outside in the garden or they go for a walk. After that they eat lunch, get ready for bed and have a nap. At 1.30 p.m. it´s time to get up. They get dressed, have a snack and a drink. Next they can play in the group room or they go outside in the garden till the parents pick them up. My group I worked in a group with 14 children. They were between 11 months and 29 months old. 11 children of them are female and 3 of them male. During my practical training were quite lot children to settle down. My activities At the beginning I found it quite hard to find proper activities for this age group. But step by step it became easier for me. I made finger games and movement games with the children. Also we coloured some eggs and we sowed some cress in them. The children were really interested in how the cress grew. I sang a lot with the children and we played some board games. Also we celebrated a few birthdays and we had to say goodbye to two children caused of their switch in a kindergarten group. My greatest moment I had lots of great moments. One morning I was/ have been one my own with the six youngest children of our group. First it was quite busy with all of them because two children were not settled down already. So they cried and it wasn´t easy to calm them down. Also one child hurts itself, was really upset about it and cried. But I was able to calm all down again and we sat down in the cosy corner. I took some self-made rattle´s with me. I sang many songs and we all together made music. I really enjoyed this activity and the children had also much fun. My worst moment I can´t remember one especially bad moment. From time to time I had a few issues during my activities. Sometimes I spoke too softly but with time it got better. Once I didn´t know how to start and to finish my activity. I felt unconfident. But I´ve got my mentor on my side. She supported me in such cases. Consequence for my future This age group was always my favorite one but I wasn´t sure if I´m able to work with such small children. I`m quite tall and I already had problems with my back. But at work everything was fine. I didn´t had any trouble as long as I worked back-gently and as long as I made sure to work back-gently. Now I know it´s possible for me to work with this age group and I´m happy about it. During the following internships I´d like to work more with the parents. By now I only did the handing over. It means to take in the child in the morning and to give it back to the parents when they pick it up. Then I talked with them about how the day was and what we did.
