Indoor kitchen herb garden help? I love fresh herbs and have an outdoor kitchen herb garden in the spring and summer each year. So I've become spoiled and no longer want to use dried, store bought herbs. This year I decided to make one indoors. I planted seeds of common kitchen herbs (parsley, rosemary, marjoram, etc) per seed package directions. They are in small pots on my kitchen counter with a grow light over them. I watered them thoroughly two days ago when I planted the seeds and assume I should water them a bit each day. My questions: How long should it take before something green peeps out? Should I cover the pots with plastic wrap as suggested on one website to keep in moisture and heat? Anything else I should be doing. Thanks for any help. I've never done seeds before - have always planted plants in the outdoor garden.
What herbs should I include in a small kitchen garden? I have the soil prepared, and I'm making my list for the seeds going on sale next week. This is what I have on the list so far: Basil Oregano Thyme Chives Dill Cilantro Am I overlooking something very common? Parsely! See? That is why I asked!

Storing herb seeds and seeds for sprouting? Recently I ordered 10 herb seeds (garlic chives, mint, basil, thyme, oregano, parsley, cilantro, and dill) and 5 seeds to sprout in a bioset kitchen garden (broccoli, china rose radish, mung beans, mustard, and wheat) and I was wondering where I should store them, and what in? Also, what type of soil do you reccomend for sprouting herbs, compost, potting mix, or special seed starting soil? Thanks.
Can I grow an indoor herb garden that is not in a kitchen window? I live in an apartment on the 14th floor and don't have a kitchen window or a yard to grow an herb garden. Best time to plant Kitchen Garden in Virginia? I live in VA and want to plant tomatoes, Bell peppers and basil. maybe some flowers later. I have a tiny patio so all I can do is plant them in pots. I would like to know what would be the best time to plant these in my area. Also, can I use the same soil as last year. It looks fine. But last season (my first stint at gardening), I had planted the seeds which grew to healthy plants but I couldn't reap the fruits as they were too raw and the air got too cold. This year with your help I want to do it right. Thanks in advance.

Helpful Tips on Hydroponic Herb Gardens? I have been wanting a Hydroponic Herb Garden for the Kitchen like seen on T.V. but it is expensive. I have tried herb gardening from seeds and plants outdoors in Florida but they usually die out before I can get them to grow. The only thing I have now are two beautiful Rosemary bushes. Do you have any tips or ideas on what I can do to put together a decent looking herb garden in the kitchen area. I need tips and advise please.
How do I grow hot dogs? So I recently built a kitchen garden and I would like to grow some vegetables in it, like hot dogs. I checked my local stores for seeds, but they only have seeds for nasty stuff, like carrots. Can I order those seeds online?
suggestions for good but uncommon kitchen herbs? I am already planting the usual herbs, chives, basil, oregano rosemary... Planning to try out some more variety for next summer, already got sweet cicely seeds. Are there any other good herbs to try out which are not found in every supermarket but might me good for herbal teas or cooking? Some old fashioned favorites? I only have a balcony, no real garden though. Suggestions?
I want to begin a small herb and vegetable garden - guidance please!? I grew my own tomatoes from seed last year and they were very succesful. We are moving house and I am getting a lovely big garden. I want to start a very small veg patch and a herb garden. Could anyone please give me guidance on what would be good for me to grow as a beginner, bearing in mind I wish to use the produce in the kitchen (ie no marrows please!) Could you also give me tips regarding where to place the patch (against a wall, in sunniest spot etc) and details about soil - I'm not sure of the soil type but the hydrangeas are pink (I believe this can tell you something) and its in Rastrick in West Yorkshire. Many thanks for all you help x

I asked at the Garden Centre, the chap said I was too late for seed spuds and that I might be able to grow some from normal spuds, I am trying to get the kids interested in veg etc the toms and strawberrys I have managed ~ help please
gardening for beginers, how can i protect my new veg patch from the bugs, in a safe way as i have young kids? With my little boy we have just dug and composted an area in the garden for veg/fruit. I wanted to do this to show them how to grow things for themselves when they are older. Problem is i havnt a clue really, i have put a mesh fence around it to stop the dog or cats toileting. What can i do about creepy crawlies. We have lettuce and carrot seeds, i have 4 strawberry plants and 2 tom plants on my kitchen window. They are getting a bit big now should they go in the garden. How do i protect everything in a organic/ safe way ie no chemicals pellets etc. Thanks for any help.
How often should I water my new indoor chilli plants? I have 5 different plants and will be keeping them by the window in my kitchen as I don't have a garden...not sure if the sun will hit them much though as we don't get a lot of sunshine. How often should I water them? Right now they are just tiny little seeds.
What would you do if you found peacock in your kitchen?!? A peacock has become tame enough to enter a family home after becoming accustomed to living in the garden and eating bird seed. The peacock, who sleeps in a tree and spends the day in the family's garden in South Normanton, Derbyshire, has begun exploring the kitchen when the back door is left open. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/7721058/Peacock-moves-into-family-home.html
Do you ever keep track of how much garden produce costs you per pound? I keep my receipts and make a ledger of what I spend on seeds and other supplies. I also have a kitchen scale and I record how much produce I bring into the house from the garden. Since gardening is my hobby I don't factor in the cost of my time, I also don't worry about depreciation on stuff I've already bought or what I spent the year before. I always shoot for at least one pound of produce for every dollar spent, and in my best year my garden produce cost me only 47 cents per pound. I'm wondering if anyone else does this or if this means my OCD is worse than I thought.
What is a good plant for a garden window? I have a garden window in my kitchen and want to plant some plants in small planting pots with the kids but I am unsure what type of plants would be good in the window. The window faces North so never really any direct sunlight but it does get a good deal of sun as there is no other apartments to the West or North of mine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh,,,another question, should I by the small plants that where already started or buy seed packets. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to all. Do not want to do beans...want a flower. I also meant to include that I live in Las Vegas, NV so it does get hot here. Not sure how much difference it will make but thought I should include that as well.
About broad beans...? Kitchen Garden magazine AND my broad bean seed packet (Aquadulce Claudia) assure me I can sow my beans anytime form November to March. I sowed some in a tray inside and now am trying to harden them off, but the leaves are going black from the cold even in the daytime. How on earth can you sow them in the winter if they're so tender??
Namaste: please tell me about green cooking herbs available in markets in India? I would like to know which herbs you can buy easily in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Calcutta... or some other places ? and, please: is it easy to get fresh bunches of such herbs in the green market, or should you grow them in your own kitchen garden ? In that case - if you should grow them - is it easy to obtain seeds ? I know there is coriander greens (dhania) curry leaves (kadi patta) fenugreek leaves (methi) dill (sowa) bay (tej patta) mint (pudina) basil (tulsi) but can you find also other herbs like chives (chhoti pyaz) thyme (banajwain) parsley (ajmood) rosemary (rusmari) and any others you might think of ?? thank you so much in advance, for your consideration xxx
My kids found an onion growing in my kitchen? Since we planted a small garden this year they added it to the garden. I was wondering (since I have never grown onion) if I can expect anything to come of it. Will it grow more onions this year or should I expect it to flower and get seeds? It seems to be flourishing (I expected it to rot). Will it grow more than one onion in the roots or is it just the one? Any other information or tips would be nice since this is the first time we planted a garden. If this matters we planted in mid March. It is a yellow onion that I bought from the grocery. I'm in south east Louisiana.
Are there other bird nerds like me? The staples in my pantry are red wine, bird seed and dog food. I have many resident birds that I tend to. I live in Nashville, TN and the hummingbirds are starting to migrate at this time of year. I have 20 feeders and usually about 20-50 hummingbirds in my garden at this time of year. It is great to go out on the patio and be swarmed by the hummers. I have noticed something strange this year. I have Carolina Chicadees ( very small birds, 2-3 inches in height only found in the United States) that are feeding off of the sugar water. They feed on the feeder by the kitchen window. They are no ants on the feeder they are actually drinking the sugar water. I fill 3 different sized birth baths daily so it is not the water. Has anyone else seen this before? I try not to talk about my bird obsession with others. It's boring to them, I can tell.
grow courgettes on kitchen windowsill? I'm new to gardening, and sadly don't seem very green fingered. I've grown some courgette plants from seed, the first one got (what I think was) mosaic virus so I put it outside and started some other plants - the first (virus) one was then immediately killed outside by the wind! I now have two plants on my windowsill, they have 4 - 5 nice sizes leaves, but i am scared to plant them out because its pretty windy round here - can i just grow them fully on my kitchen window sill? Will they sill give me nice courgettes!? Thanks for your help. PS if you know about gardening please see my other question about peas!
Who is the author of this and when was it published? WHAT CHICKENS NEED 1. Grains (whole, living grains are way better than cracked, and a mixture is way better than pure corn) Scratch grain mix, from feed store, containing many kinds of grain ($5/50 lb) Extra yellow corn (cracked) --- it gives them warmth in the winter, we're told GRAINS MUST NEVER BE WET AND MOLDY -- CAN KILL! 2. Greens (grass! weeds! fresh veggie parings from kitchen!) Grass forage Garden clippings Kitchen trimmings (thrown in the compost pile near their coop) 3. Protein (in summer, they get enough bugs -- but in colder weather they need protein supplementation, including perhaps the following: yellow-jackets from restaurant traps, soybeans, worms, milk, meat --- but sea fish is the very best). Every morning (quantity for 12 chickens): 3/4ths cup of boiled soybeans ~~ (make a batch every week or so: SOAK 2 cups of dried soybeans in three or four times the volume of water overnight; bring to ROLLING BOIL in the same soaking water for 15 minutes; DRAIN; STORE in fridge) mixed with 1 cup of instant oats, some sunflower seeds, milk to moisten, warmed up. Every other afternoon, same thing, with some fish flakes, bits of scrap fish, or some canned cheap fish. 4. Hard grit (do not confuse this with oyster shell or calcium --- these dissolve in the chicken's digestive system, grit does not --- grit is used in place of "teeth"); quartz-based sand with angular edges (not rounded, as often is found in riverbeds) can be collected wherever you find it. You can also collect angular granite grit from trips to areas that have it. Tiny chicks need tiny grit, so get a variety of sizes. A little lasts a long time. The girls will pick and choose a few choice pieces now and then. Fun to watch them study and try out the different grains of grit. 5. Calcium (crushed oyster shell, other shells, ground or hammered bone) (There's lots of calcium in greens, if they get to forage all day.) 6. Vitamins A (and D if the weather is cloudy for long stretches) 7. Salt (best given separately, free choice; kelp is the very supreme choice for this, if you can get it --- it supplies all the minerals in the world --- see below) 8. Minerals - Dried kelp fronds (the leafy parts, not the stalks, which are too hard to chop up and don't get eaten) are kept in their coop on a sturdy clip. They can free-choose it, letting them adjust their salt and mineral intake. There are nearly 100 minerals on Earth. Only sea water and sea life has them in the ratios that animals need. All blood of animals contains these minerals, in the same proportions as in sea water! Scientists have barely scratched the surface of understanding all the things that these minerals do in living bodies. For optimum health, it's best to get all of them. Just gather a mess of kelp off any beach that is more than 50 miles from a city, sling it into a garbage bag and take it home. At home, set it out in the yard, and in a very short while, it will be dry and crisp. Take the flakey parts, and clip them about a foot off the ground where your chickens frequently go --- those document clips with a black "hinge" and two folding silver "arms" work best. How to grow vegetables from seed? My tomato plants are thriving. My basil is almost two feet tall. Now how the heck do you grow other stuff? Since we have a long growing season in so cal, and the seed packets were only 11 cents each, I decided to get two, for the hell of it. I got carrots and "table queen" acorn squash... what do I do with the seeds before planting? and how deep do I plant them? how much do I water? spacing? I have around 5 feet of length available for the carrots, and a wide u-shaped area thats around 10 feet long by 4 feet for the squash. I have organic "vegetable" soil stuff, and Ive been adding kitchen scraps to my garden, too. I need tips, people. By the way, I'm way new to all of this, so please describe methods- this is my first garden.

You're poor and just moved into a new house with nothing. What are the first things you buy for your health? OK, basically I'm trying to figure out, what things are at the top of your priority for living a healthy life, especially if you don't have the money to buy "everything." Assume that you have basic food, but nothing out of the ordinary. List as many things as you like that you think would be an immediate priority for your limited budget. So... is your priority high quality food items, such as extra virgin olive oil, raw milk, almonds, etc.? Or maybe some sort of vitamin or supplement? Or, is your priority things in the kitchen to help you cook healthier foods, such as a juicer or good pots and pans? Or, perhaps it's equipment, such as an exercise bike or an inverter machine. Or, maybe you'd get things to have a healthy house, such as an air filter or water filter. Would you get seeds for a garden? Healthy cleaning supplies? Anything goes. Those are just a few thoughts, but be specific. I'm asking this same question in a couple sections, since I think different philosophies of health might have whole different ideas... Lol. OK, you have basic living stuff. Just not stuff for living a healthy lifestyle...
Counter top composting bin? We live in a small older apartment complex. Every apartment has a small area for a individual garden right outside. Last year we moved in too late for me to start a garden, and all I ended up growing was my potted tomatoes and my kitchen herbs. This year, I definitely want to do a organic garden. I even have some seeds planted, and sprouting indoors right now. We composted at my parents house, so I know how doing a big pile works. But I have to do it on a much smaller scale here. I bought a small kitchen counter top crock composting bin today that has the carbon filter for reducing odors, but I'm not thinking it will be as good as outdoors. I've never heard of or used one of these before. And I don't want to be a bad neighbor with a large compost pile right outside, but I would like to do it. Any suggestions for composting in a small apartment area? Has anyone used one of these kitchen compost bins, and if so how did it work? Also, I don't want to buy store bought soil. I feel better knowing what's going into my garden. If I'm growing it, I want it to be he healthiest it can be,

Any Alan Titchmarsh fans? Never a stalwart at the allotments Grancher brought home from the White Horse a twist of 'Sketch', and spilled onto the kitchen-table oilcloth eleven ('Big uns') seeds. They seemed toylike: a thick-fingered child's imagination of how a flower does its thing. Flat, striated, glossy, almost japanned. "Natty says Sunflowers. Natty says they turn to follow the light when they are grown." It seemed unlikely. We checked the gardening book but found nothing. Visited the library. "Native to the Americas." But Grancher lacked nothing in the way of faith. If cabbages, rhubarb, swede, grew so generously ... why not sunflowers? He pondered whether to set them in the garden, but settled that they deserved the open sky and the lighter soil of the Council ground. I swear I never saw a grown man dandle seed the way Grancher cossetted those husks. We wondered if he'd ever plant them. Then Jimmy - his budgie - picked one out of his palm, split it, and ate it. That was enough. Everyday, after the shift, he detoured to the Grounds. Kept his key in his snap-tin. We'd never seen him this anxious about beet, or even runner-beans. And - all respect to Natty - they grew. Faster than we could believe. A row of giants; after six weeks they needed staking. Grancher flourished the only bamboo-stalks in the whole plot. By twelve weeks, they were taller than he was, and - as promised - they turned to face the light. He liked to think of them 'getting all that sun' as he lay on his face in four inches of dark, overcutting the heat, until it fell in.
what can i male with the following? im ever so hungry? my hungry self went around the kitchen and found: nutella icecream (soy if you want to know lol) butter syrup (the not so sweet stuff) rasberries (20) oval red fruit in our garden wich tasts very bitter... Growing bell peppers? Okay, say I go into my kitchen and cut open a bell pepper, take a hand-full of seeds, and plant it in a hole in my backyard... will it grow into a plant? Doesn't the time spent not attached to the plant effect the seeds or something? Sorry guys, I am trying to muster up some ambition here. I will be asking quite a few questions here about gardening. I think I'm going to grow a veggie garden. Thanks for bearing with me. (I have gotten many books also, so don't sugest that) Oh yeah, live in AZ
Should I get another chicken? My man came home last night with a chicken! It had been on its own for a year after the other chicken got stressed to death by a visiting dog. Then the daughter (of the people who gave us the chicken) brought a little pretty chicken home but that was being pecked on badly so the first one had to go. I'm not up for scouring the internet on how to keep chickens just yet beyond what i have done so it got shade, a coop with a stick to sit on and fresh water. We got given some food that should last till the weekend too. And it got a run of roughly 6mx3.5m untouched by chickens yet so lots of creepy crawlies and seeds to be found too. Saying that it was in a suburban garden before where it had the run of the garden. Now its area is walled on 3 sides and the fourth has a netting over it till we build something proper over the next few weeks. I can see it though the kitchen window but can't open that as it would be the ideal pouncing spot for our cat. In it's old place it lived side by side with a cat, mine sits and watches it from a distance for now. But does it need company? As it has been on its own for over a year even though chickens are social animals sort of I suppose. Anyone has some words of wisdom on how to keep my chicken a happy one?
What are some literary devices used in this poem? Now the rain is falling, freshly, in the intervals between sunlight, a Pacific squall started no one knows where, drawn east as the drifts of warm air make a channel; it moves its own way, like water or the mind, and spills this rain passing over. The Sierras will catch it as last snow flurries before summer, observed only by the wakened marmots at 10,000 feet, and we will come across it again as larkspur and penstemon sprouting along a creekside above Sonora Pass next August. And the snowmelt will trickle into Dead Man’s Creek and the creek spill into the Stanislaus and the Stanislaus into the San Joaquin and the San Joaquin into the slow salt marshes of the day. That’s not the end of it: the gray jays of the mountains eat larkspur seeds which cannot propagate otherwise. To stimulate the process you have to soak gathered seeds all night in the acids of old coffee and then score them gently with a very sharp knife before you plant them in the garden. You might use what was left of the coffee we drank in Lisa’s kitchen visiting. There were orange poppies on the table in a clear glass vase, stained near the bottom to the color of sunrise; the unstated theme was the blessedness of gathering and the blessing of dispersal— it made you glad for beauty like that, casual and intense, lasting as long as the poppies last.
Feedback on a poem I wrote about my grandfather? This is just a poem I wrote about my grandfather. It's got a lot of stuff in it that other people might not understand, but I think the loving tone is still conveyed, even if you can't understand all the correspondance :] I'd love some feedback. Also, there are some words in it that are not in English, I will put asterisks next to them and translate them at the bottom! Warning: its long Grandwater I know I’m still your granddaughter But am I still your grandwater- melon that is ? Can I eat a watermelon With seeds And sticky juice Smeared on my face And on your clean white sheets? Don’t tell! Can I sit in your lap Rest my head on your shoulder Sit so near that I mingle with the sandalwood scent Of your skin? Can I graze my fingers Over your red age spots And your round squishy birth mark The one that daddy has too And giggle? Will you pat my back And tell your maga* To tate* Until the whirring of the old fan And the blanket of Bombay heat And the Peanut walla’s* distant screaming And Ajji’s* kitchen clanging And the soothing aroma of wadis* Puts me to sleep? Then will you lie next to me On the stark white cot In your stark white lungi* And snore? Until I wake up And pluck a curly white hair From your curly white head And swirl it across your crumpled face Until you sneeze Illuminating all your wrinkles And smile? Will you converse with me Like a grown up About things I don’t understand And pretend not to notice That I’m pretending to understand? Will you walk faster than me With your hands behind your back And your chest out And when I yell ‘not so fast!’ Tell me it’s good for digestion? Will you take me to the snail garden Wielding a stolen banana leaf To protect me from the mosquitos? Will you still brag about me To your senior society? Show me off Pass me around Beam at me Coddle me And smile Our secret smile Because only I Can be your special Grandwater- melon that is But mostly I need to know Will I still be your grandwater- melon that is Even If I have to sit in a chair Instead of your lap Even If I get a B in chemistry And math Even If I wear short skirts And makeup Even If I talk about boys Instead of books Even If I like pizza More than wadis Even If I no longer Pretend to understand But really do understand More than you Ever will Can’t we still just be Grandfather and Grandwater? Translations: Maga: Child Tate: Sleep Walla: Vendor Ajji: Grandmother Wadi: An indian sweet Lungi: A traditional south Indian garment worn by men (a cloth wrapped around the waist) Thanks! These are some of my favorite childhood memories, and I love getting caught up in the nostalgia of them!

Can you help a clueless female with her DIY? Well, just bought an end terrace house. Got lots of general upgrade to do but have no idea how to do it! I don't wanna cut corners and do bodge jobs but I can't afford to get contractors in either. I've had quote after quote after quote and each contractor has give me the cock and bull about this and that needing doing, costing thousands. I feel like they are taking advantage. My porch roof is leaking into kitchen and I wanna sort it today before the 'MONTH LONG DOWN POUR!' My guttering is leaking at back of house onto wall and window -worried about damp penetration (just had dpc done) My guttering is leaking at the front splashing against cellar air brick. I need to find some good lime wash to for my dampish cellar - can't find any in any hardware shops - online is too expensive I've just levelled my garden out but can't seed it or landscape it as its water logged - what do you suggest? I've had dpc done on internal wall with lime plaster, do I have to wait 6 mths to paint???! Great stuff, I ask for some advice on how to deal with diy and i get called an effing idiot, to get a back bone and get some comment on feminism. jeez grow up! I am not a weekling or a freaking bimbo. I am a working class female who has researched into doing all these jobs myself but thought.. lets ask on yahoo and see if I can get a third opinion and all I get is abuse. These people on here who throw out ridiculous comments like you have no respect for others whatsoever. You don't come into yahoo to genuinely answer questions you just come on here to abuse genuine people and hurt their feelings. You won't gain points by asnwering the way you do you will only get reported for abuse. I hope that those who enjoy insultingothers have a fantastic life and are happy and get everything that they want in life because thats exactly what you deserve. i paid 105k for it. very cheap nowadays! the survey is another issue. halifax ordered a survey on me, i paid 300 quid. i wasn't aware of the three types of surveys available otherwise i would have chosen the structural but wasn't told this at the time. i'm currently in the process of complaining to halifax for failing to offer me the options. hopefully i'll be able to get some money out of them.
A parsley plant and two basil plants walk into a bar...? Okay, they're not walking into a bar, they're growing in a kitchen and maybe getting transplanted to outdoor containers in what looks to me like USDA zone 6b, but it does sound like a joke, so stop me if you've heard this one: I have two basil plants and one parsley plant in my kitchen. All plants are from Giant (more on that later). One of the basil plants has gone to seed (not on my watch, I wish to add), whereas the other has been continually in my custody and thus has not, AFAIK, gone to seed. I am not certain about the parsley. More on that later. Now this is where it gets complicated, because I just got some tomatoes, which are in containers in the backyard. I want to move one or more of the kitchen herbs out to live with the tomatoes now that it is nice out. I was thinking of putting the new basil there and/or maybe dividing it, but I don't know what to do with the old basil or the parsley. I have an idea but I don't know if it'll work even in the long-term (i.e. new plants in the spring). I think I want to put the old basil plant, the top layer of the old basil plant soil (which will contain any germinated seeds generated by the old basil plant in the aforementioned flowering), and maybe some cuttings from the new one, into the oversized container. (I may not have mentioned this, but I'm kind of new to gardening, container or otherwise). The problem with that is I don't know if the old basil plant is at all fertile because everything I have bought at a grocery store in the last few years has been sterile (after seeing Food Inc., I have very strong suspicions as to why, but I digress). I also don't know how a basil plant from a grocery store that has been indoors its whole life is going to fare outdoors, or how a basil plant that has gone to seed will do with being transplanted. As I said, some of my questions are likely to be basic. So, would be pointless to try to transplant the old basil plant? am I just being sentimental because I don't want to kill the first houseplant I've managed to keep alive for a respectable period of time. I would rather put it out to pasture, so to speak, and given the unruly nature of my backyard, I will just plant it there if I can't do anything else, because I'd rather have wild basil growing there than grass, which is boring and inedible (yeah, I don't get the whole lawn thing). Should I put the old one in the container, buy another new basil plant, try to grow a plant from cuttings, or what? Also, what do I do with the old plant? As for the parsley plant, I'm not sure what to do. It has started to look somewhat neglected and has very long, pale lower stems like the basil plant that has gone to seed. Does parsley go to seed? I wonder if maybe the lower stems of the parsley plant were deprived (like, there was a shadow over them) and it just put out leaves where there was more sun. I am completely new to parsley, so I haven't a clue. Sorry for the wordiness-- I know it's bad writing. I have at least tried to break up the wall of text for greater readability.
English Poetry Questions Please HELP !!!!!? I need HELP our english teacher gave us two poetry questions to do i would be so thankful if someone could answer them as i dont get them the first poem is Seed by Paula Meehan The first warm day of spring and I step out into the garden from the gloom of a house where hope had died to tally the storm damage, to seek what may have survived. And finding some forgotten lupins I'd sown from seed last autumn holding in their fingers a raindrop each like a peace offering, or a promise, I am suddenly grateful and would offer a prayer if I believed in God. But not believing, I bess the power of seed its casual useless persistence, and bless the power of sun, its conspiracy with the underground, and thank my stars the winters ended. 1)a) What in your view is the mood of this poem? Explain briefly how its conveyed. Make reference to the text in support of your answer. 1)b) Choose one image from the poem that appealed to you. Explain your choice. The second poem is Fathers Old Blue Cardigan by Anne Carson Now it hangs on the back of the kitchen chair where I always sit, as it did on the back of the kitchen chair where he always sat. I put it on whenever I come in, as he did, stamping the snow from his boots. I put it on and sit in the dark. He would not have done this. Coldness comes paring down from the moonbone in the sky. His laws were a secret. But I remember the moment at which I knew he was going mad inside his laws. He was standing at the turn of the driveway when I arrived. He had on the blue cardigan with the buttons done up all the way to the top. Not only because it was a hot July afternoon but the look on his face – as a small child who has been dressed by some aunt early in the morning for a long trip on cold trains and windy platforms will sit very straight at the edge of his seat while the shadows like long fingers over the haystacks that sweep past keep shocking him because he is riding backwards. 1) Write a response to the above poem, highlighting the impact it makes on you. OR 2)a) What impression of Anne Carson’s father do you get from reading this poem? Support your view by reference to the poem. 2)b) Briefly describe the mood or feeling you get from reading this poem and illustrate your answer from the text.
Are tick eggs hard or soft? I applied frontline plus to my two dogs and my found cat (of one week -- who was mostly left confined to a bathroom for about a week) ... I applied it to one dog in my bedroom because she hates fireworks and is very old now, and was there with me, afraid. I only use the stuff during summer months, and i have NEVER found a tick on my pets. I was doing laundry, and had some things on the floor. I picked up some of the items and put them on my bed -- nothing unusual with me doing that. I was sorting. I went about some other things, and at some point I found a big black tick on one of the items, on my bed. I was frieking, not knowing if it was the cat or what (whom i had let come lay on my bed finally). And how did it get there, i just bought that item at a thrift store and had tried it on. Maybe it was there when i tried it on?! I went in the kitchen where the older dog was lying on her comforter. I found a tick crawling across the floor, another big black one. Later, there was another. Today, I found one on my bed again, on a little fleece baby blanket that i use to wrap around my neck while i sleep, mostly in the winter. I don't recall if it had fallen onto the floor at night, but i think not. I had a rough time getting to bed last night. I had to remove the top comforter due to the ee-bee gee-bees. (i had vacuumed my bedroom before sleeping) I found another one dead on the kitchen floor tonight after that little episode with the blankie. I have 4 live ones in a jar, two dead ones from kitchen, and one more found when i decided i had to strip the bed just now (i use two sheets, he was in between them -- appeared dead but they move slowly, so flushed him). They appear to me to be the deer tick but i don't know. I am guessing that they came off of the dog, but i don't know. I bathed them all before the treatments. I found some stuff stuck in the cats fur. To me, it looks like some plant seed, but now i gotta know, are those tick eggs? They are small and brown, and hard as a walnut. I figured a plant seed, but now i am frieking about that too. I had already purchased a spray for around the house, just in case for fleas--- Mycodex Plus -- a photostable residual product for control of fleas and ticks. Has linolool/1.000% active ingredient ... and permathrin/0.200%. The stuff is sickening smelling, but i thought i had better get it. Thought i had it in a pump before, but this is a spray. I hate using toxins. I sprayed living room and bedroom. I don't know if i can live here anymore :( ... I fogged my garage recently, due to spider issues. I am wondering .... where in the world did all of these ticks come from!! I don't live in the woods, i do have a large garden. I keep that clean, I work in it all the time and have never picked up a tick to my knowledge. And now it seems these buggers can live quite a while in here without blood. I have a constant case of eebee gee-bees now feeling stuff on my body that isn't there. What can I do? And now, eggs... None of the ones that i have found look gorged at all. Seems that the frontline plus made them fall from the dog? I thought it killed them. They are still very alive in the jar, one day later. And also, could that medicine have caused some that were feeding to remain stuck and dead in the dog? And also, the young ones, i read you can't even see them! Sorry about the length of this post/question. Any help is greatly appreciated. Oh, and yes, tomorrow i will take the jar to the vet. I will not put the dog in my car though, not yet. I live in Indiana. Not sure if deer tick is here. The ticks are about the size of an apple seed, and black with a long neck i would say. The "eggs" were hard and about the size of a stick pin head, or the top part of a pen. THEY ARE BEETLES lol ... took the jar with 4 of them to the vet ... beetles ;-P

How realistic is our Cause? Also Suggestions.? How realistic is it for someone to create a volunteer run group with the intent of growing produce (veggies & fruits) and donating it to soup kitchens and shelters for the homeless? And they were doing it to help people out, not for profiting. Friends and I are wanting to create our own volunteer run group with such an intent, but we're trying to see things realistically. We have jobs that pay well so getting seeds won't be so difficult. Plus a friend of mine lives on a farm with good soil. We're looking into perma-culture as our gardening tactic. So how realistic is all this? Any suggestions also? (Btw we know there are social/government programs we could join to do this sort of thing, but... idk we don't trust them much. Don't ask why.)
Lol. OK, you have basic living stuff. Just not stuff for living a healthy lifestyle...
Who are reciting the word 'Bismillah' (In the name of God)? All things act in the name of Almighty God, for minute things like seeds and grains bear huge trees on their heads; they raise loads like mountains. That means all trees say: “In the Name of God,” fill their hands from the treasury of mercy, and offer them to us. All gardens say: “In the Name of God,” and become cauldrons from the kitchens of Divine power in which are cooked numerous varieties of different foods. All blessed animals like cows, camels, sheep, and goats, say: “In the Name of God,” and produce springs of milk from the abundance of mercy, offering us a most delicate and pure food like the water of life in the name of the Provider. The roots and rootlets, soft as silk, of plants, trees, and grasses say: “In the Name of God,” and pierce and pass through hard rock and earth. Mentioning the name of God, the name of the Most Merciful, everything becomes subjected to them. The roots spreading through hard rock and earth and producing fruits as easily as the branches spread through the air and produce fruits, and the delicate green leaves retaining their moisture for months in the face of extreme heat, deal a slap in the mouths of Naturalists and jab a finger in their blind eyes, saying: “Even heat and hardness, in which you most trust, are under a command. For like the Staff of Moses, each of those silken rootlets conform to the command of, "And We said, O Moses, strike the rock with your staff," and split the rock. And the delicate leaves fine as cigarette paper recite the verse, "O fire be coolness and peace" against the heat of the fire, each like the members of Abraham (UWP). What do you think about it?
Any adcvice to make my essay better? It is supposed to be really discriptive. Due today. Cherry Street In a suburb of Dallas where I used to live is a street called Cherry. Throughout most of my childhood Cherry Street was the place I lived and breathed. I remember everything about that street, the smells, the sounds, the tales of all the harebrained neighbors and the rumors about the oddly quiet ones. The first thing that anyone would notice when driving down Cherry Street is the colors. The houses like rainbows blended perfectly together down the pavement and came in an array of colors. There were school bus yellows, soft spring lavenders, and peaches with crimson hearts painted on the shutters. Our house was more subtle, a clean white trimmed in baby blue. Though it didn’t stand out like some of the other houses our house had the most trees and that is the main thing I remember about living on Cherry Street. Every house was covered from front to back with dozens of trees. There were tall skinny trees with long thin arm like branches that stretched the length of the yards. There were short stumpy trees with leafs that grew in random clusters scattered all over the tops and sprouted long skinny seeds every spring. My favorite was the big tree that sat in the center of our front yard. It was the biggest tree on the street. The trunk was thick it humped and grooved so that there were spots just big enough for our feet when we climbed up into it. Then about halfway up dozens of thick limbs exploded in different directions. The limbs grew tall and wild soaring and diving in all directions, twisting through the limbs of the surrounding trees. My siblings and I would all claim a spot in the tree naming it after whatever animal the shape of the odd branches seemed to take. We also used to roller skate. On Cherry Street the sidewalk is a nearly flawless smooth and glittered heaven. Even if you’d managed to trip over the one imperfection in the pavement –a jagged square of sidewalk that was just a little higher then the rest- you’d never scrape your knees of the palms of your hands. The side walk was soft and glassy falling down was like more like falling into pillows, so we’d just race as fast as we could without a worry. One thing we did have to worry about was the wacky neighbors. Right next to our house a woman lived with her husband and young granddaughter. Their house was perfection all year round. They lived in the only brick house on the street and their front doors where white with golden tinted windows that cast a glow when the sun hit them just right. When the wind blew you could smell the summer musk of freshly mowed grass which was always a luminous green even in the dead of winter. When it was springtime we’d sneak tastes of the sweet honeysuckle that grew along the fence line until they cut them down. In between their front door and another door that was also in the front but hardly used was a garden that was raised off the ground and surrounded by the same brick as their house. The flowers were even more colorful than the houses and sung as the sun rolled through the branches of the trees and into their petals. Every time they racked the leaves in their yard they would throw them over the fence and into our yard, my parents didn’t like it but my siblings and I were happy because it just gave us a bigger pile to jump into every fall. A little further down was the single vacant house on the street. It was white, just white and loomed over the surrounding houses. There was no mailbox and the numbers on the house were gone. Everything about the house left you with an empty feeling. There was no for sale sign in the yard and no trace of the owners, it was simply abandoned. The windows with their broken and twisted blinds were big glaring eyes that sent trimmers up our spines when passing it. The grass was overgrown and the bushes were wild and twisted together. Once we sunk in the back yard and took turns sticking our heads into the old doggy door at the grimy kitchen and ran for our lives when we swore we saw a ghost staring back at us. There is no place like Cherry Street. Whether my sibling and I were stealing the neighbor’s cat or their mail or if we were jumping from the tops of the tallest trees we dared to climb in, I will never forget living on Cherry Street.
just what you wanted to know? The secret daily life of the average BNPer 21st February 2007 A Hard- Hitting Expose involving Kippers, Russian-Style Bird Houses and a National Geographic Magazine! Read this raw and gruesome account if you can stand to know the truth! Rating: Triple XXX (because the birds that are spoken of in this account are not actually wearing clothes, but are wearing only feathers.) No animals were harmed in the making of this article. The secret daily life of the average BNPer One bonny Saturday afternoon: Fred: (Saunters up to Terrance as Terrance weeds his front garden) Terrance, I just wanted to tell you that my wife and I don't mind living in the same neighbourhood with a BNPer. We just wanted you to know that. For years now we have lived in the same neighbourhood as you, and I was just telling my wife, the other day, that I would wager that you aren't all that different from anyone else. Terrance: (Sighs inwardly, sits up, smiles patiently and puts down his weeding tools) Well, that's very good of you Fred. Fred: Yes, it is really, but I'm just that kind of a person. In order to prove to myself that you really are no different from anyone else in the neighbourhood, I have decided to follow you about for a few hours, just to get a feel for how you live your daily life. Now,Terrance, don't look so shocked and you don't have to thank me either. I don't mind a bit. It will do you a great deal of good for I shall be able to mention to the other neighbours just how good of a person you really are and I will be able to stem those nasty rumours going about the neighbourhood. Terrance: What nasty rumours? Fred: Oh, you know, the rumours that imply that because you are a BNPer you are a raving racist who shoots at the local bird-life. Terrance: (Looks bewildered) No, actually, I really had not heard that I am a raving racist who shoots at the local bird-life. Are you sure that you want to watch me as I go about my daily business? I'm really very normal and my routine might bore you a bit. Fred: Well, never you mind. You just go about your daily business and I shall watch. Go ahead. Proceed. Upwards and onwards Terrance! Just pretend that I'm not here. Terrance: Well, I've just finished weeding my garden and I was just about to go inside and prepare some kippers on toast, perhaps browse through my latest copy of the National Geographic magazine, and then I was going to call Mr. Jabi at the dry- cleaners and ask him if my suit is ready yet. Fred: (Follows Terrance from the garden into the kitchen area) So, this is a nice house that you have here. Tell me, is 'kippers' a code-word for some sort of secret political meeting that you are going to host here today? It's ok. You can tell me. Terrance: (Places some bread in the toaster and puts the kettle on to boil) No, actually, I just like to enjoy a nice plate of kippers on toast after I weed my garden. Fred: Right, right, right. So, do you have secret political meetings AFTER you eat the kippers on toast? Terrance: (Looking more and more shocked) No Fred, I usually listen to Bach and do a crossword puzzle or read the National Geographic magazine. Do you care for cross word puzzles? Fred: Oh, well, no I don't care for crosswords puzzles actually, but I suppose that you are really going to deal firmly with that Mr. Jabi at the drycleaners! Going to give him a good telling off then? Going to take out a bit of angst out on him with a good telling off, I suppose! Terrance: Why would I do that? Mr. Jabi has been doing my dry-cleaning for years and he happens to be a very nice fellow. Fred: Don't you hate him? Terrance: (Looks unhappily exasperated) No, I do not hate Mr. Jabi. I am against mass immigration, but I do not hate Mr. Jabi. Actually, Mr. Jabi enjoys a good dish of kippers on toast and he won a chess tournament last year. He's quite good at chess or so I think. Fred: (Winks) So, are you planning on smacking around Mr. Jabi, just a bit? You know, are you planning on roughing him up a bit, just to give the message? Terrance: (Looking horrified) Good God, no! Why on earth would you think that I was planning on slapping Mr. Jabi? What message? Fred, have you gone quite mad? Why would you think that I was planning on slapping a seventy year old man who eats kippers and does my dry-cleaning?! Fred: Well, you ARE against mass immigration. Why wouldn't you slap Mr. Jabi about? Isn't that what the BNP is all about? Terrance: I have heard that you are against abortion. Is that so? Fred: Yes, that is true. My wife and I are very much against abortion. Terrance: Well then, does that mean that you are planning on slapping a nurse? Fred: Of course not! Terrance: Well, I'm not planning on slapping Mr Jabi! Fred: (Looks disappointed, but then perks up.) What's this? Is it a wooden box in which you hide your secret political- meeting agenda-papers? Terrance: That's a bird feeder, in the shape of a small Russian-style house. I'm planning on putting a final coat of paint on it this week and then filling it with seeds and placing it out in my back- garden. Fred: Are you going to slap the birds about once you lure them over to your new birdhouse?! Terrance: (Sighs and arranges his kippers on some toast) Fred, I am not planning on slapping Mr. Jabi, nor am I luring birds towards my garden, in order to slap them! I have never felt like slapping anyone or anything! Fred: (With a suspicious look on his face) Never? NEVER? Terrance: Well, maybe just once, but it was just a fleeting urge and I did the right thing by managing to overcome the fleeting urge. Fred: Right, I knew it! And what were you doing at the time that this fleeting urge came over you? Terrance: During the minutes that preceded the fleeting urge to slap someone, I had just finished weeding in my garden and I was preparing to read my copy of National Geographic or do a crossword puzzle, but at the exact moment that the fleeting urge came over me, I was eating kippers and preparing to telephone Mr. Jabi! Fred: Aha! So, you did once have the urge to slap about Mr. Jabi! Terrance: Not at all. Fred: Well, if you didn't ever experience the urge to slap Mr. Jabi, then of which race was the person whom you did have the urge to slap? Terrance: I really don't know. I really couldn't say. Fred: That's odd. Shouldn't you be aware of the racial origin of the person whom you once had the urge to slap, even though you subsequently overcame the urge? Terrance: I shouldn't think so. Fred: I should think so! How can you claim to be a raving-racist, who slaps about garden-birds and people, if you don't even know the racial origin of the person whom you once wanted to slap? Terrance: I never did claim to be any of those things. I am simply a member of the British National Party, but as for the matter pertaining to the racial origin of the person whom I once had the urge to slap, well, perhaps I can clear the mystery up for you, but still the point is that I overcame the urge to slap someone. Fred: Well, go ahead then. Tell me. Of which racial or national background was the person whom you dearly would have enjoyed slapping? Terrance: (Smiling happily to himself as he pops a piece of kipper into his mouth) Hmm. It's hard to say. Tell me, Fred, are you English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish? readers, the question is in whats being read, judge it for yourself. i didnt write it i copied it from the british nation party website. yes we have a sense of humour, we dont hate. vistit www.bnp.org.uk and see what its all about. we have letters from all walks of life and print both sets of views, unlike the present criminal gang thats acts as a goverment.
Please read my story and see if it needs to be editedd!? The Good Boggart “Could you go any slower John?” Margaret complained as her and her brother John were going to the Well to get water for their family’s lunch. “Margi, wait up! You know ma and pa said you have to stay by me!” John was always overprotective over Margaret, she was only 8, and he was 13. I have to make my wish with the coin mama gave me! So don’t listen while I throw the coin in!” Margaret was always the impatient and outgoing girl who liked to do things herself. Margaret whispered her wish and threw in her silver “coin”. (Her “coins” were just gray rocks her father would cut into round; flat circles and told her they were coins.) “Ahh!” Margaret screamed! “Margaret! Where are you! Oh dear!” John ran to the well thinking Margaret had fallen in or something. “Margaret! Oh my lord!” “John! Look at the bucket!” The bucket and pulley was somehow moving by itself, up out of the well and back down into the well, as if it was fetching water for itself. “Margi! You nearly scared me half to death! Are you all right! John said completely shaking while he talked. “Am I alright? You’re asking me if I am all right? Well I was just walking when-oof!” Something had popped out of the well and hit Margaret right in the nose! “Ow!” Margaret complained as she was nearly crying. “Oh come on Margaret! I’ll carry you home!” John always offered help home for even the slightest injury! “I’m perfectly capable of walking! Thank you very much!” She always hated it when she was offered help for anything. John and Margaret walked home to their small, wood, and stone cabin. “Mama! Guess what happened just now!” “Margaret Angela Willams! What happened to your nose!? It’s all red!” “Oh! I got hit by my coin, anyways, me and John were-“ “Wait, hit? How Margi?” Margaret’s father usually never spoke full sentences. “I was going to get there if you stop interrupting me! Now, I was making my wish and I threw my coin in, then suddenly the bucket in the well started moving by itself, then the coin you and papa gave me popped right out of the well and hit me in the nose!” “Honey, it couldn’t have came out of the well, things just don’t do that.” Her mother said in a sweet voice. “But ma! It’s true! I was there!” “John, knew it too?” Said his father again not speaking correctly. “Well, I uh,” He swallowed. “Yes, but I heard her scream so I ran there, then I saw it! It was moving! Up and down, into the well.” “Wind, probably wind.” “You know what John; I don’t like how you agree with 8 year old talk! Go into your room and think about how childish you sound!” “Yes mother.” “Expected more in you, a 13 year old boy.” Now it was nighttime and John creaked open Margaret’s bedroom door and whispered her name. “Margi, you awake?” “I am now John!” “Quiet! I’m here to talk about what we saw earlier today, the well and the coin.” “Do you think it was a Boggart? Like the ones papa tells us about in his stories?” For once Margaret sounded normal when she talked, unlike her mean voice. They both heard something hit the ground, almost like a plate or dish fell on the floor. “What was that John?” Margaret had yelped in a very scared voice. “Come on, let’s go check it out.” They both walked downstairs and saw that everything in their kitchen was a total mess! Plates were everywhere, cabinets were open, and so was the cellar. “What’s this?” John said while picking up a piece of paper that said “To: The two kids” “Let me read it!” Margaret said while ripping the paper right out of John’s hand. She read “I am thay boooogart, I case no hram!” “Margaret! You’re still learning how to read! Let me read it! I am the Boggart, I cause no harm. Yea! Talk about no harm done! Look what he did to our kitchen!” “Who’s down there?” A voice boomed from upstairs. “John, Margaret? Is that you?” Their mother had said in a really scared voice. “Mama! A Boggart has been here look!” Margaret said so proudly while handing the letter to her mother. “John! This messing up game again?” “Again? Mother! I’ve done nothing wrong! It was a-“ “ME!” A noise from nowhere said. “You go right back to bed you two! You will clean this mess in the morning!” “But I didn’t-, yes mother.” The next morning John and Margaret were cleaning up the entire kitchen, well mostly John for two reasons: 1) Because his mother assumed he did it and 2) Because Margi was in charge of going back and forth to the well to get water for him to use to clean the floor, table, and counters. “Margaret, tell mother I went to the Bakery Shop to get a sandwich for lunch, please clean while I’m gone. Oh, and tell father I used my 2 pennies he gave me for planting the seeds in the garden. Bye!” And John was gone to go get lunch for himself. Margaret didn’t feel like cleaning the kitchen so she decided to get more water, and when she got to the well she saw the bucket was moving through the air by itself Thank you for helping, NOT! Geez, I only asked for help, not a explanation that "there is no excuse". btw, i dont care that ur a "editor"
What is going on in my apartment? Have you ever had this happen to you? I live in an apartment and have always heard of houses being haunted but apartments? When I first moved here almost 3/1/2 years ago a man in his 40's had been dead in his apartment downstairs for about 3 months. They finally found his body. When I first came here my old boyfriend gave me some seeds and I was going to plant a garden outside. I had them on my refrigerator in a glass bowl. Well I was watching a video on my small television in my bedroom and heard a big crash. It was the seeds falling from the refrigerator! There was noone living next door at the time to perhaps cause it nor any earthquakes going on. I live in Alaska. Well I had a blessing on my house from some missionaries and this stopped for awhile. But lo and behold it starts again! Faucets turning on by themselves in the kitchen and bathroom. I had valentine hearts held by tacks coming down with just the one tack holding it. These were firmly put into the wall. I've been in the living room watching television and this picture of me and a guy who was killed in the war came crashing down. Plus, in the bedroom at night I've seen white orbs of light kind of like clouds floating overhead and when I'd turn, they'd come towards me. It's getting rather spooky living here! Oh yes, my computer chair was turned towards me one morning and I didn't put it there! I had a packet of seeds just lying in the kitchen one day too. My cat is the only one who lives with me, and no I don't suffer from any mental illnesses, I don't use any drugs nor do I drink! The only thing I can think of it's the spirit of the guy who killed himself, my old boyfriend who could have died, or the man who was killed in Vietnam! Please, no stupid, sarcastic remarks.
