Making a webstore-Web design info? MY TWO SCHOOLS Two of my bigger clients are Division I schools, Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton. I have established the rules for working for them and the do's and don't of using my work are set in writing. 1) I own all my photos, not the school. 2) Photos can go out to local newspapers and the newspaper of the hometown of the student athlete. 3) No photos go to magazines, websites, players, family or fans and all referrals go through me. One school follows the rules with no trouble. The other school is hard headed. I have found photos on the websites and magazine and I get the line: "We should have the ability to publicize our programs." I understand their point of view. But here's my point of view: If the schools just hand my photos over to another source they are going to make money from my work and I am getting nothing in return. Isn't it reasonable to expect to be paid fairly for photos? HURTING A FRIEND As you know, we work in a small community, which is getting smaller everyday. A good friend of mine, Larry Goren does freelance work for Baseball America. He covers Major League Baseball, the minor leagues and college baseball for them on a regular basis. Larry covers 4 - 5 Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton baseball games a year. Baseball America would call Cal State Fullerton or Long Beach State and ask for free baseball photos for its website or magazine. By getting photos from the schools for free they wouldn't have to pay Larry for his photos. I found out his name and did some homework on being a professor at UCLA. This Weekend Warrior makes over $90,000 a year, loves taking sports photos and regularly hands over free photos to schools. He just picked up the phone and called the schools looking to shoot for them during the playoffs. The cost he was asking: $100. Not per game, for the entire weekend! That's 3 or 4 games for $100 total! I emailed Joseph Rudnick, Dean of Chemistry & Biochemistry at UCLA, asking if could work at school on Tuesday and Thursday for free because I just love science. I told him I received an A+ in Biochemistry in college. Think about it for a second. We have people who just love taking photos for free or dirt-cheap as a hobby and think that they can do what you do for a living (as a professional photographer) . I went to school for photography and I have busted my ass to get where I'm at and for what? So some professor can do below average work for cheap? Why can't I teach biochemistry for little or no cost? I never heard back from the dean, too bad ... I was really looking forward to teaching biochemistry at UCLA. What do employers look for in a group assessment interview? I attended one of these today, there were 6 of us, going for 2 vacancies. There were two group exercises where we had to promote an imaginary person for a job and then we were put in groups of 2 where one of us was the seller and the other was the buyer. I was the seller, I made small talk instead of just cold calling straight away. I stated that I was a new company and that we were willing to do a trial reduction in price and that the buyer could have some free catalogues not just for herself but for her her 'shop' so her customers can have a look at my products and spread the message on. I have never done sales/promotions before. The assessor seemed really impressed, stated that he could not say anything at the moment, but he will let the right candidates know if they have the job. The thing is as well, I know it will sound strange but on the way to the interview I saw two magpies together and going home I saw another 2 (which means 2 for joy!) During alot of the assesment, I spoke up and voiced my opinions and views and basically made myself heard, there was another strong candidate, I was the seller and she was the buyer as I mentioned earlier. I am thinking I probably have the job because she is a strong candidate and the assessor probably put us together to see what we are like if we potentially work together, literally, what do you think? Have you been in a situation like this?

Do you think email has had a bad impact on the US Postal Service??? I wonder if the reason (beside greed) has cost our postage to go so high we can hardly afford to purchase a card and mail it. It seems more people are banking online, paying bills by phone or online, so it that hurting their business? On the other hand, I am disabled and do most of my shopping by catalogue, and internet. Where do you get your tires mounted and balanced after purchasing them online? I was interested in purchasing tires from such stores like www.tirerack.com, but after I realized that mounting and balancing each tire costs about $20, and after shipping costs, basically the savings are wiped out (or I may save $10-$15 overall, and have to deal with lugging the tires from my house to the shop). Besides, I wouldn't get free tire rotations either. What have you done? Is the American Express Platinum card worth it? Is the American Express Platinum card really worth it? Is it much better than Preferred Rewards Gold Card? I've joined American Express 7 months ago & have been more-the-less happy. Although I don't have 100,000 points like I do on my VISA (yet), I see good rewards in the catalog & like their perks. I was upset when flying recently to find out that Preferred Gold wasn't good enough for the First Class lounges. So, knowing me, I couldn't stop myself from upgrading my card to Platinum. It just sounds so much better; 24/7 Concierge, 4X Points for Shopping @ certain stores (whereas Gold was only 2-3 X points) and basically all perks they can offer. I want to ask someone who has an AMEX Platinum Card - how can you weigh it's worth? It sounds great, but for $450 annually vs. $150 for Gold (plus first year would have been free for Gold). Am I totally out of my mind? Furthermore, I also ordered a card for my wife, not realizing they charge $175 on top of the $450 for up to 3 extra Platinum cards. I called their customer service & explained that this wasn't clearly explained online where I upgraded. They're willing to bump her back to Preferred Gold. Should I: 1) Keep Platinum for both of us. 2) Keep Platinum for myself & Preferred Gold for her (meaning, she can enjoy the Platinum benefits from my card as well or we actually each need one). 3) Downgrade them both back to Preferred Gold Premium? Eye makeup... what's best? (out of list, feel free to also suggest)? I use Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in black, along with waterproof mascara... but I find the eyeliner tends to smudge and fade during the day, and look quite bad. I would also like to get a little color and/or light shimmer for my eyes -- something to just bring them out. Out of the following graphics card, what is the cheapest one that can run World of Warcraft on max settings? Here is a list of a few GPU's from Future Shop. That is where I bought my computer so they install it for free. Which one of them would I be able to use to run WoW on max, but is the cheapest price. For example the 4870 x2 can obviously run it on max and that's because its several $100 dollars. I want one that can run it on max but is fairly cheap. Specs: 3.06Ghz 1G of PC3200 Ram I only have a regular PCI-E lot (not 2.0_ so the card won't run at it's max speed but that's find with me because I don't play very much. I was getting dropped off for my first day of Kindergarten at Cappaport Academy, the school at which my mother had applied me to the day I was born, by Clara. It was raining, hard, and Clara was holding a Burberry umbrella in her white-gloved hand as we went up the steps to the intimidating white stone building on Park. I was carrying a tiny Kate Spade coin purse, for buying lunch, of course. The already upwards of 40k a year cost of tuition school charged extra for their all-organic vegetarian lunches, and snacks of Perrier and sugar-free cupcakes from Rose Bakery next door were extra on top of that. As Clara signed me in with the Chanel-wearing secretary and waited to get my schedule (yes, as a kindergartener, I had to get a schedule), a tall red haired woman wearing paint-splattered jeans and a Prada flower-print dress ran in, her demeanor in entire disarray. She was toting a little boy with messy auburn hair wearing khakis and a black cashmere tee-shirt, and she was yelling into her cell phone something about “going to Ivan’s art show in Brooklyn”. They looked like Park Avenue’s demented surprise babies, conceived by a clandestine affair with Alphabet City. The secretary looked the woman and her son up and down before literally turning her nose up at them. She asked the mother’s name, and when it was given, immediately turned down her nose and ushered them through the huge oak doors leading to the elevators right behind us. As we both stepped onto the elevators, Clara and the woman started the quintessential small talk essential to any New Yorker. “Clara Maddeuax, I’m this Delilah Chase’s nanny,” She introduced herself. She always introduced me like that, as “this Delilah Chase”. With her French accent, most people interpreted it was “miss Delilah Chase”, which was probably for the best. “Pleased to meet you, This Delilah Chase. I’m Rhea O’Neil, mother to This Sebastian Walker.” So she had caught the “this.” But for a moment, I thought Clara had gone mute. She stopped fiddling with her gloves and looked up at the woman like she had just told her she was Jesus Christ’s daughter. After a long, awkward silence, she finally said, “You-You’re Rhea O’Neil? My God, You’re my favorite artist of all time!” The woman just smiled and nodded, obviously used to this sort of reaction. “I’m flattered, darling.” The woman-or, as we now know, Rhea O’Neil murmured politely, just as the elevator doors opened to the Kindergarten floor. Classical music was playing from the ceiling, the smell of Chanel No. 5 wafted in the air, and the children in the room were all silent Ralph Lauren Child Fall Catalog look-alikes. Any tear that was shed was quickly wiped off with a glare from the teacher, whose title, I would learn later, was Madam Roguard. Rhea O’Neil merely patted little Sebastian on the butt and nodded at Madam before lighting up a cigarette as she left. Madam’s mouth opened, most likely to bark at her about the strict no-smoking rule at Cappaport, but Rhea was already in the elevator, flicking ash onto the flawless white carpet. Sebastian and I looked at each other with curious eyes.
